Dr. Jacob Shatsky, eminent
Jewish scholar who was the
guest speaker at the Yiddish
Tercentenary meeting in Detroit
in December of 1954, died in
New York
June 13, at the
age of 62.
A noted his-
torian, he was
the author of
many books ,-
and was the
librarian of the
New York State
Psychiatric In-
stitute.
Born in War- Dr. .Shatslcy

saw, Dr. Shatsky came to this
country in 1927: He was presi-
dent of the Yiddish Pen Club
and was active in many organi-
zations. He was especially in-
terested in YIVO, Jewish His-
torical Society, Jewish Book
Council and the. American Jew-
ish Tercentenary Committee.
Dr. Shatsky bequeathed part
of his huge library to the Ae-
brew University. of Jerusalem
and the Jewish Historical So-
ciety in Jerusalem.

Ex-Judge Sanders
Dies at Age of 69
.
'Former , Judge Joseph Sanders
died June 14 in Sinai Hospital.
He was 69. His home was at
16624 Mendota.
Funeral services were held
Sunday afternoon at Kaufman
Chapel.
Surviving are his wife, Ann;
two sons, Peter and Harold; a
daughter, Mrs. Edward Stein; a
brother, two sisters and seven
grandchildren.
Judge Sanders was appointed
to the -Common Pleas Court
here by the late Governor Wil-
liam Comstock, under whom he
also served as an advisor on
labor. He served as Common
Pleas Judge from 1933 to 1935.
Born in Austria, Judge San-
ders was brought to the United
States by his parents at the age
of three. He was a Detroit
resident for 42 years.
For Many years he was a
leader in the Democratic party
in Michigan, and even in the
days when a Democrat was a
rarity in this state, he stood by
his party.
He also was a leader in__Bnal
Brith and served as president of
Pisgah Lodge.
