National Council of Jewish
Women, at Temple Israel, Mon-
day, Dr. Frederick R. Lachman
executive director of American
Friends of. the Hebrew Univer-
Sity in Jerusalem, commended
the Council for its efforts to
spur educational programs.
The luncheon welcomed two
Israeli students who are here
on , scholarships of the Council
of Jewish Women—Mrs. 'Miriam
Morris, who is studying nursery
school adminstration at Merrill
Palmer School, and Miss Dvora
Meyer, a Wayne University
nursing adminstration student.
Dr. Lachman outlined the
general problems of education
and described the • efforts to
solve the many problems cre-
ated in Israel by the arrival of
Settlers from backward coun-
tries. He said that the Israel
army is an important educa-
tional medium.
Israel's medical and other
needs were outlined by Dr.
Lachman, who gave an inter-
esting description of the inte-
gration of Yemenite and other
Jewish newcomers into Israel's
life and economy.
Mrs. Arthur Gould, president
of the Detroit NCJW Section,
presided.
