Council Head Disagrees On Orthodox Position

In reply to a statement by the
president of the Rabbinical
Council of America that the
Orthodox rabbinate and laity
should withdraw from the
Synagogue Council of America
and similar inter - denomina-

tional agencies, Rabbi Abraham
H. Feldman, Council president,
stated that it is not the univer-
sal position of Orthodoxy, or
of Orthodox' rabbis and Ortho-
dox laymen.
In an unsigned editorial' en-

titled "Orthodox Rabbi Outlaws Jewish religious life in Am- by the Rabbinical Council presi..

Conservative and Reform Jews,"
in the Jewish Ledger publica-
tions of Conn., Rabbi Feldman,
editor of the weeklies, asserted
that this is, "the position of a
highly vocal and 'very aggres-
sive group of isolationists who
seek deliberately to ghettoize

erica."
Rabbi Feldman expressed the
hope that "this disturbance will
pass over without too' serious
damage to the Jewish cause
and Jewish life in America."
The editorial was. written in
reply to the statement made

dent during a debate held Feb.
7 at the Orthodox rabbinical
group's mid-winter conference
in Atlantic 'City on "integra-
tion versus isolation."
