Release War Prisoners

VIENNA (JTA) — Frontage
photostats purporting to prove
that twelve former policemen
recently released as war prison-
ers by the. Soviet authorities had
killed many hundreds of Jews
in the cities of Kolomea and
Stryj were "published here in
the Communist newspaper
"Abend." "

Polish Jews. Released
From USSR Internment

VIENNA (JTA) — Several
hundred PoliSh Jews were be-
lieved to be • among the 2,500'
Polish civilian internees released
by the Soviet Union and returned
to Poland since Dec. 1, according
to reports in Polish newspapers
reaching here.
Hundreds of - thousands of
Polish citizens fled into the
USSR when the Nazis invaded
Poland- in 1939 and were later
interned and sent to labor camps
in Siberia and elsewhere. The
Polish -Government has requested
the • return of all those who still
remain in the USSR and the first
groups have already arrived on
PoliSh soil, the Polish newspapers
report.

Israel Has Most
Doctors Per Capita

GENEVA, (JTA) . — Israel
has the largest ratio of physi-
cians for its population of any
country in the world, with one
physician for every 431 in-
habitants. The • ratio figures
were contained in a survey
released by the World Health
Organization here.
Israel's ratio compares with
one for 758 in the Soviet
Union, one for every '777 in
in the United States, one
for every 3,500 in Egypt, one
for every 1,290 in the Lebanon
and one icor every 6,296 • in
Jordan.

The • paper published confes-
sions by two of the policemen
which they were said to have
signed in 1947. They admitted
that they had shot hundreds of
Jews, including women and chil-
dren, in the Jewish cemetery of
Kolomea.

centuries of continuing American
interest in Palestine, and in the
Jewish restoration • to Palestine,
were uncovered by leading his-
torians here in the religious and
secular literature of the United
States since the 17th Century
and in the column of newspapers
and periodicals published in this
country during the past 200
years.
The historians are participat-
ing in a two-day, conference on
the Early History of Zionism in
America, convened by the Amer-
ican Jewish Historical Society
and the Jewish Agency for Pal-
