Karajan s Audience:
H. Taylor's Estimate

How did the community react
to. the concert here last week
by the Philharmonia Orchestra
of London, under the direction
'of Herbert von Karajan?
The Detroii News music critic
reported an "especially sizable"
audience.
But Harvey Taylor, the able
Detroit Times music editor,
making mention of the state-
ment issued by the Jewish Com-
munity Council exposing von
Karajan's association with the
Nazis, stated:
"The conductor, Herbert von
Karajan, who appeared earlier
this year with the Berlin Phil-
.
harmonic, was again boycotted
by the majority of the regular
Jewish concertgoers — a group
that forms a large percentage of
the audience at any concert."

on 'Labor's Gains in. 1955" at a
meeting at' 9 p.m., today, at the
WC Center, 11529 Linwood.
"New Americans" Branch 227,
will meet Saturday at the Center
for a business session.
