World, U.S. Leaders in Jewish National Fthid
To Speak Sunday, at Keren Kayemeth Parley

More than 350 delegates repre-
senting 100 organizations in De-
troit and surrounding communi-
ties will convene at- the Jewish
National Fund Conference, at
Workmen's Circle Educational
Center, 11529 Linwood, this Sun-
day.
A number of prominent guests
will participate in discussions of
the critical situation in Israel and
the Middle East. •
Dr. Abraham Granott, world
president of the Keren Kaye-
meth Le'Israel, who has come
to the United States to promote

a special program of land re-
form, reclamation and agricul-
tural development, will be the
guest of honor. This program,

Israel Forest of 20,000 trees in
his honor; the Rev. Malcolm G.
Dade, Minister of St. Cyprian's
Episcopal Church, who retufned
several weeks ago from a study
tour of Israel and the Middle
East; Hannan Yarden, adminis-
trator of the Keren Kayemeth
office in Jerusalem, and Abe Tu-
vim, executive director of the
Foundation for Jewish National
Fund.
Highlights of the conference
will be a brunch for delegates
at 10 a.m., and several presen-
tations of awardS and certifi-
cates. The afternoon session
will feature the guest speakers,
and several special presenta-
tions of groves of trees, to
leaders to be memorialized for
outstanding service to Israel
and JNF.
The third Yahrzeit of Chaim
Weizmann will be obserVed at
this session. Cantor Hyman J. Ad-
ler of Congregation Bnai David
will chant the memorial 'service.
A series of panel workshops
have also been announced by
Richard B. Kramer, chairman of
the conference committee, to take
place. following the brunch ses-
sion. Jewish youth organizations
have been invited to participate
in as forum, having as its theme
"Jewish Youth in America and
Its Relationship . to the Present
and Future of the State of
Israel."
"JNF — A Bulwark of
Strength in Meeting ,the Prob-
lems of a Nei,v Crisis" will be
the heading of the . panel for

The panel for the Foundation
will deal with the signifkance
of wills, insurance and special
projects to the future. of JNF's
work in Israel. -
The afternoon session, sched-
uled to begin at 2:30 p.m., will
act on a resolution which is be-
ing . adopted by all Jewish or-
ganizations addressed to the' U.S.
State Department, through Michi-
gan's representatives in both
houses of Congress.
Mr. Krainer asks all congrega-
tions, organizations and lands-
manshaften who have not yet
submitted the names of their
delegates to . have them register
at the Workmen's Circle, Sunday,
at 9:30 a.m.

Circle to Discuss FEPC, Labor's -Gains

"A Study in Social Action—
The Fair Employment Practices
Law" will be the' topic of a joint
meeting of WC branches 460,
463, 470 and 1060 at 9 p.m.,
today, at the home of Dr. and
Mrs. Lawrence Stocker, 17342

The panel will - include Rev.
Sheldon Rahn, director of the
Social Service Dept., • Detroit
Council of Churches; William M.
Seyburn, administrative assistant,
Detroit Urban League, and Mar-
vin Meltzer, . director, Detroit
Office, Jewish Labor Committee.
They will discuss how the
FEPC law came into being, how
it will work, the needs of those
whom it will serve and its effect
on our daily lives.

Downs, member of the Michigan

to. the concert here last week
by the Philharmonia Orchestra
of London, under the direction
'of Herbert von Karajan?
The Detroii News music critic
reported an "especially sizable"
audience.
But Harvey Taylor, the able
Detroit Times music editor,
making mention of the state-
ment issued by the Jewish Com-
munity Council exposing von
Karajan's association with the
Nazis, stated:
"The conductor, Herbert von
Karajan, who appeared earlier
this year with the Berlin Phil-

harmonic, was again boycotted
by the majority of the regular
Jewish concertgoers — a group
that forms a large percentage of
the audience at any concert."
