MONTREAL, (JTA) - Samuel
Bronfman was re-elected presi-
dent of the Canada-Israel corpor-
ation at its annual board meeting.
The corporation was established
by the Canadian Jewish Congress
and the Zionist Organization of
Canada to stimulate trade be-
tween the two countries.
Sigmund Unterberg, manager
of the Corporation, announced at
the meeting that an agreement re-
cently concluded with a group of
banks will provide $2,800,000
credit to facilitate purchase and
shipment of commodities to Is-
rael by the Corporation.
It was also revealed at the
meeting that a shipment of 10,000
tons of wheat, worth $800,000,
will leave Vancouver en route to
Israel at the end of this month,.
bringing to $6,000,000 the total
purchases arranged to date by the
corporation.
U.S. Grants 51,000 Visas
To Emigrants Abroad
GENEVA (JTA) - A total of
57,957 visas have been granted
of 161,554 applications filed with
American officials under the
refugee relief program, which_
would permit 209,000 immigrants
to enter the United States . out-
side regular quotas.
These figures were reported at
a session of the Intergovernmen-
tal Cominittee for European-
Refugees by Scott McLeod, ad-,
ministrator of the Refugee Relief
Act of 1953. Mr. McLeod said the
program's work would be com-
pleted "successfully" by the tar-
get date, Dec. 31, "in all areas of
operation except possibly Ger-
many, Austria and the Nether.
lands."
