lengthy discussion here with

Senator David Croll said here.
"It may be the intention that
Israel shall be the first victim
of the armament move, but Is-

Rep. Diggs Attacks U.S. Arms Sales

Rep. Charles C. Diggs, Jr., of
Michigan'g 13th Congressional
District, this week made known
the text of a letter he sent to
Secretary of State John Foster
-Dulles, urging the U.S. to main-
tain a strict policy of refusing
to sell arms to Egypt.
The letter reads:
"It is some consolation to note
in newspaper accounts that the
United States and Great Britain
have agreed that "there should
be no race for arms to the Middle
East.'
"However, I am writing to urge
that the U.S. maintain a strict

policy that it will sell no arms
to Egypt.
I am greatly dis-
turbed, as are many others, that
the U.S. would consider such a
plan, and to the extent of .$10,-
000,000 at a time when it is
espousing the cause of peace and
disarmament.
"Our nation is fully aware of
the opportunity for aggression it
will be encouraging by such a
move. It would certainly be a
grievous mistake on our part and
an unpardonable offense against
the people of Israel."
