To Dr. Sherbin Told

Four of nine winning women's
organizations in a recent contest
sponsored by The Detroit News
were groups that conduct their
major work within the com-
munity. Over 200 organizations_
entered the competition.
In a story last week, The Jew-
ish News mentioned that the win-
ners of first prizes of $250 in di-
visions one and two, were the
Detroit Section, National Council
of Jewish Women and Neugarten
Medical Aid.
Two other JewiSh women's or :
ganiiations also
won the Divi-
sion two and
three third
prizes of $50
each. They are
the Infants Serv-
ice Group, in di-
vision two, and
Northwest Child
Rescue Women
in division three.
Division o n e
was composed of
Mrs. Brode
clubs with 300 or more members;
division two, 100-299 members;
and division three, less than 100
members.
Mrs. Norman Brode, publicity
chairman of the Infants Service
Group received a parchment
scroll and the check on behalf of
the group. The letter of entry was
written by Mrs. Bernard May, a

past president. Mrs. Jack Hen-
cken was president at the time.
Their contest slogan was "No
Infants Cry Unheeded." Their
work is primarily in helping in-
digent children, through existing
agencies. The group established
the first center for mentally re-
tarded children, provided thera-
peutic equipment for. the Cere-
bral Palsy Center, other equip-
ment for Sinai Hospital and De-
troit Orthopedic Clinic and dona-
ted funds to the Penrickton
Nursery for Visually Handicap-
ped Children.
"Give Them a Chance" was the
winning Northwest Child Rescue
Slogan, and was woven around
its program of sending 150 men-
tally retarded children to summer
camp. Mrs. Irvin Baskin was
president at the time of the
award-winning activities.
