Israel Bonds Spur Chemical Exports
B.G.R. Says
There Will Be an
End to All Exiles
The Israel vessel "Aguedal" anchors in Haifa Bay ready to load
sulphuric acid from the 500-ton storage tank at the Fertilizers and
Chemicals plant. The shipment, destined for Turkey, is one of
many such exports during the past year, made possible with the
aid of Isral Bond capital.

The situation of the Jews un-
der the Soviet has been treated
in quite extensive literature in
recent years, but no book pene-
trated so deeply all the implica-
tions of Jewish involvement in
Bolshevism as did "Scapegoat of
Revolution" by Judd L. Teller,
lately issued by Charles Scrib-
ners and Sons. A brilliant piece
of historical writing, with its
intensity of conviction perhaps
carrying it to certain extremes,
this volume deals with such a
wide range of recent Jewish his-
tory that it is almost indispen-
sable to a clear understanding
of current Jewish life and
thought.
Judd Teller, as an experienced
and gifted journalist, has prepar-
ed the Jewish reading public for
his book with many comprehen-
sive articles on current events
and problems, especially with
some significant essays which
among other magazines have ap-
peared in Commentary.
The great conference of the
Big Four did not approach the
subject of freedom of movement
for the Jews of Russia, but there
are signs and portents of certain
changes at least in the thought
and atmosphere relating to inter-
national affairs. All of us who
have faith in the ultimate destiny
of humanity are bound to believe
that in the course of the years
all exiles, including the exile in
which the Jews of Russia are
languishing, will come to an end.

This is not the time to castigate
the rulers of Soviet Russia, with
whom the leaders of the other
great nations recently conferred
in Geneva. To be sure, our own
State Department was not as
cautious as it might have been
in preventing the circulation of
previous predictions about the
economic decline of the Russian
State, but the indulgences of
statesmen are not permitted to
ordinary mortals. Generally
speaking, this is a time of care-
fulness, quiet meditation, and
watchful waiting. The meeting of
the Big Four did not have a Jew-
ish angle, but already optimistic
speculations have appeared in
part of the Jewish press, and
some of these anticipations re-
late to the possibility of Jewish
emigration from Russia to Israel
and other lands. The discussion
of that problem is probably still
far off, but that may be another
reason why we should keep calm
and refrain from further elabo•a-
tion on the misfortune which
Soviet rule has meant to both
Jews and Judaism, particularly to
the cultural values which were
at one time in the possession of
the Russian Jewry of old.
From the light of that tragic story
it is hard to fathom the mental atti-
tude or psychology of Jews who
have been drawn in by the il-
lusions and snares of Bolshevism.
The recent revelations made by
Winston Burdett and other wit-
nesses before the U. S. Congres-
sional committee showing how,
according to a Herald Tribune
editorial, "young men, with obvi-
ous usefulness and character, can
have gotten sucked into the
swamp of communism" unfor-
tunately brought to light again
a number of Jewish names, in-
cluding the son of a rabbi.
