Incidence of Plundering Increases
Despite Moroccan Assurances
(Continued from Page 1)
ment issued by the World Jewish
Congress welcoming the assur-
ance given in New York by Mo-
roccan nationalist leaders that
Jews need not fear that in an in-
dependent Morocco they will suf-
fer from discrimination in any
form and that "Jewish Moroccans
will be citizens equal both in law
and in fact with Moslems." The
press also published a statement
from the Centrol Moroccan Com-
mittee of the World Jewish Con-
gress emphasizing the fact that
similar assurances have been is-
sued by a number of nationalist
party leaders also in Morocco.
Moroccan Leader Claims
No Arab-Anti-Semitism
UNITED NATIONS, N. Y.,
(JTA)—No Jews or Jewish prop-
erty are being attacked or
harmed because of anti-Semitism
in Morocco, Abdurrahn-ian Ane-
gay, head of the Moroccan Office
of Information and Documenta-
tion, said here.
Not only the Istiqlal, Moroccan
Independence Party, but the Mo-
roccan people themselves have
the friendliest feelings toward
Jews, Mr. Anegay claimed. He
declared that he had no details
about reports that, in the cur-
rent riots in Morocco, Jewish
homes had been wrecked, shops
looted, and some Jews injured.
"However, we can assure the
world that any unfortunate suf-
fering by any people in Morocco
has nothing remotely to do with
anti-Semitism, but is only the
result of the general situation
that has been provoked by the
French • colonial regime," Mr.
Anegay said. "We can say abso-
lutely that almost never have
Moroccans attacked Jews as
such."

the tempo of immigration from
North Africa was held under the
auspices of the Association of
Jews from North Africa. Speak-
ers appealed to American Jewry
to finance this emergency im-
migration, warning of the dang-
ers faced by Jews in North
Africa.
The fate of the North African
Jews was also discussed at a
meeting of the Israel executive
of the World Jewish Congress in
Jerusalsm.- Dr. Nahum Goldman,
president of the WJC, reported
on the situation and on the moves
taken to aid the North African
Jews. He and other leaders also
reported on the situation of Jews
in Western Europe, in Latin
America and in countries in other
parts of the world.

"present conditions." It was also
understood that the Poale Miz-
rachi representatives were not
anxious to have Mapam partners
in any Cabinet they might join.
Achdut Avodah is prepared to
enter the Cabinet, provided that
it received the communications
portfolio and the post of Vice-
Minister of Defense. The latter
post would be assigned by the
party to Yigal Alon, party leader
and one-time commander of Pal-
mach.
Ben-Gurion was given the
mandate after President Ben-
Zvi formally completed consulta-
tions with the leaders of all the
parties. The Herut Party, how-
ever, seeing a slight to them-
selves in the arrangements for
the reception of their leaders by
Mr. Ben-Zvi, refused to send its
leaders.
The Herut found a cause of
offense in the fact that the Presi-
dent had first called in the repre-
sentatives of the parties in the
present coalition, then all others.
The Herut said the invitations
should have been extended in an
order based on the relative
strength of the parties in the
new Parliament, which would
have had it consulted imme-
diately after the Mapai.
Herut leader Menahem Beig-un
charged that the Herut had been
"slighted" by the President and
had been "ill advised" in the
order of consultation.
Failing in its efforts to prevent
adjournment of the Knesset for
the customary recess after Suk-
kot, Herut acted to recall the
deputies to a special session. Mr.
Beigun announced that Herut
would circulate a petition among
the deputies to recall the Knes-
set. Such a petition i.vould require
the signatures of 25 deputies.
The Herut leader charged that
the July .26 election, in which
Mapai lost five seats, must be
interpreted as a. vote of non-
confidence in the government. He
charged, therefore, that it would
be "unethical" to delay formation
of a new government for two
months, until the Knesset recon-
venes.
It is believed here, however,
that should Mr. Ben-Gurion suc-
ceed in forming a coalition, the
Knesset _would be immediately
reconvened and asked to vote
confidence in the new cabinet.
When Speaker Josef Sprinzak
formally adjourned the Knesset
session, he stressed that the
Parliament could be reconvened
either on petition by its mem-
bers or at the call of the gov-
ernment.

MUNICH, (JTA) — A Catholic
group intends to purchase the 300
buildings at Foehrenwald, last
Jewish DP camp in Germany.
The camp has long been slated
for closing but it still has about
1,500 Jewish residents.
The small Jewish communities
scattered throughout West Ger-
many have begun preparations
for the forthcoming High Holi-
days. At the same time, a per-
manent Jewish chapel seating 25
worshippers was opened this
week in Munich by Major Oscar
M. Lifshutz, Jewish chaplain for
American troops in the Munich
area, in the presence of Major
General Numa A. Watson, com-
manding general of the area. The
small synagogue, second of its
kind in Germany, is located in the
American compound, formerly
seat of the Military Government
for Bavaria and before that head-
quarters of the Nazi Party Quar-
termaster.
In Dortmund, a cornerstone
was laid for a small new syna-
gogue in the presence of Sieg-
fried Heimberg, chairman of the
Association of Jewish Com-
munities in Westphalia. There
were 5,000 Jews in Dortmund
before the Nazis came to power.
Today there are only 300 Jews
residing there.
