VICE PRESIDENT NIXON

tries on a goodwill tour late this
fall.
It is understood that the Vice
President's tour was suggested by
Secretary of State John Foster
Dulles and approved by Presi-
dent Eisenhower. During his
visits, the Vice President will at-
tempt to strengthen ties between
the United States and Israel, on
one hand, and the United States
and the Arab states,,on the other.
It is understood he will tell both
parties- that the U.S. favors the
development of each but will not
support one at the expense of the
other.
Rep. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.,
of New York sailed last weekend
for the Middle East where he will
make an unofficial offer to act
as a Mediator- between Israel and
the Arab states. He will seek, the
Congressman said, to persuade
Egypt to invite Israel to attend
the second meeting- of the Asian-
African conference which will be
held at Cairo.
