Direct JTA Teletype Wit'Te — te the Jewish News

FRANKFURT—With callousness that has shocked observers
here . Dr. Gerhard Peters, Nazi manufacthrer of special cyanide
gas who was acquitted of responsibility in the murder of hun-
dreds of thousands of Jews and other inmates at Auschwitz Con-
centration Camp, has appealed against a verdict which acquitted
him last week.
Dr. Peters, an executive in chemical industry of Germany, has
appealed on grounds that he should have- been awarded the costs
of his legal defense and for time he lost when held in pre-trial
custody after the war ended.
Acquittal came. in his seventh trial verdict, all six others hay-
_
ing. been against him.
The Frankfurt prosecutor, who had a week in which to appeal
the court acquittal, refused to act despite an appeal to 'him by
Central Council of Jews in Germany.
' This means that if •Dr. Peters is granted re-trial on his appeal
he cannot be sentenced regardless of the findings of appellate
court.

Burma, Israel Will
Set Up Industries
On Partner Basis

TEL AVIV, (JTA)—The Bur-
ma government a n d Solel
Boneh, the Israel construction
cooperative, will establish two
industries in Burma on a part-
nership basis, Burmese Premier
U Nu declared in Haifa as he
continued his tour of the Jewish
State. Premier U Nu said his
government would invest . $8,-
000,000 together with Solel ,Bon-
eh to set up a glass- and tire in-
dustry.
As his tour continued it be-
came evident that the Premier
was as taken with the people of
Israel as they were with him.
This was particularly so in his
dealings with children and
young people. En route to Haifa
his motorcade was cheered by
a picnicing group of 50 young
girl students. He halted the
motorcade and spoke to the
children who returned the greet-
ing by dancing a hora, for him.
When the -dance concluded,
the entranced visitor broke into
applause and, turning to an
aide, instructed him to contrib-
ute 500 pounds to the school at-
tended by the girls, the -Ram-
bam School of Tel Aviv. He told
Levi Eshkol, . Israel . Finance
Minister, and Mayor A b b a
Khousi of Haifa, who were in his
party, that he had been deeply
moved by the girls' spontaneous
demonstration. He has f r e -
quently halted official tours to
mingle with children and to
sign their autograph books,
often delaying the official party.
At Haifa he inspected the
facilities of the port and the in-
dustrial complexes in the Haifa
Bay and Hadera areas and visit-
ed with Druze villagers on Mt.
Carmel. During his tour of Haifa
he was cheered by thousands of
Israelis who lined the streets-
whenever his motorcade was
,
spotted.
