Solomon Libin Dead

NEW YORK, (JTA)—Solomon
Libin, pioneer Yiddish play-
wright and short story writer in
the United States, died here at
the age of 83. He wrote short
stories for the Arbeiter Zeitung
and Abendblatt and in 1897 be-
came a member of . the staff of
the Jewish Daily Forward, where
he remained until his retirement
three years ago.

An interesting tale told about
Joseph Jonas, the first Jewish
settler of Cincinnati, concerns
the Quaker woman who wanted
to study a "Jew." After thor-
oughly inspecting Jonas, she
amazedly exclaimed, "Well, thou
art no different to other people."

Services for Nathan H. Fine-
berg, a retired detective lieuten-
ant in the Detroit Police De-
partment, were held last week
at Ira Kaufman Chapel. Mr.
Fineberg, '75, died April 12 at his
home, 13555 Twelfth.
