Mumford's new freshmen anx-
iously awaited the final results
of their Student Council elec-
tions which were announced Fri-
day. Their four grade senators
are Gail Burkow, Yvonne Coult-
er, Henry Lee and Sandra Sar-
ko.

Congratulations to senior Mel
Brinkrant, who placed first in
the Detroit TB Sanitorium
Christmas Seal Contest. His
drawing will appear on all single
bar seals next year.

The cast for Mumford's Spring
Play, which will be presented in
the school auditorium March 31
and April 1 has been chosen. The
play, "George Washington Slept
Here," is a fast moving comedy.
Included in the cast are Mer-
win Goldsmith, Linda - Lee, Gary
Lichtman, Ruth Lewis, Jay Mc-
Nabo, Rochelle Miller, Helaine
Moltz, Dale Schlafer, Steve Co-
den, Johnny Franklin, Sheila
Goldberg, Carole Karp, Joan
Rodman, Hilda Rosenberg, Ken
Rosenthal, Henry Sandweiss and
Lorraine Small.

Helping to plan a successful
year for Mumford seniors is the
senior steering committee, com-
posed of two students from each
study hall with the highest
grades.
This term's members are Ro-
chelle Aisen, M el . Birnkrant,
Janice Forbes, John Franklin,
John Johnson, Linda Lee. Jay
McNabo, Roger Netzer, Joyce
Newlander, Bruce Parker, Joan
Schneider, Sandy Shapiro and

Mumford's girls' swimming
team has been organized, with
its first meet taking place on
Tuesday with Cooley High
School. Forming the team are
Bonnie Albion, Bluma Breman,
Claire Crawford, Sharon Craw-
ford, Judy Dunitz, Marcia Kol-
lenberg, Annette Lezell, Gail
Steffen and Jeri Weissman. •

a discussion to determine
whether teachers today are do-
ing their job effectively. The
panel was arranged by Alicia
Margolis, president of the Fu-
ture Teachers Club at Central,
and was moderated by Mr. Mer-
riman, a faculty sponsor.

Excitement was in order for
oyer ,3D0 12A's recently as they
attended their first class meet-
ing. Senior pins were distributed
by Mr. F. Hensha:w, senior spon-
sor, and inaugural speeches were
heard by officers Jerry Rakotz,
president, Bill Levin, veep, Rita
bilerkle, secretary, and Harriet
Saferstein, treasurer.
Entertained at a membership
program of the French_, Club
were many 'lite underclassmen.
The meeting was sponsored by
newly-elected officers, Mitzie
Rachliff, Winnie Ledger, Ora
Kutnick and Esther Shay. En-
tertainment included renditions
at the piano by Barbara Hal-
pern, a series of- French games
and refreshments.

Gertrude Soskin entertained
at her home recently for mem-
bers of the 11A class. Leny Lach-
over, Elaine Tenser, Alan Rosen-
thal, Sue Nathan, Danny Docks,
Beverly Sweet. Mike Labowitch
and Madeline Neisenbaum were

MISS RENEE LULKIN

Mr. and Mrs. Morris Lulkin, of
18956 Prairie,, announce the en-
gagement of their daughter, Re-
nee, to Jerome Ettinger, son of
Mr. and Mrs. David Ettinger.
The bride - elect is a recent
graduate in ocupational therapy
from Wayne University. Mr. Et-
tinger also is a graduate of
Wayne U. and is affiliated with
Mu Beta Chi fraternity.
A June 5 wedding is planned.

17-Year-Old Pianist
Wins Luloff Award
Of Music Study Club

Mrs. Joseph Markel,. president
of the Music Study Club, this
week announced that pianist
Dorothy Pixley has been chosen
the winner of the club's annual
Gwladis Luloff Scholarship
Award.
Miss Pixley, now 17, beg-an her
piano studies at three and gave
her first recital when she was
only four. A frequent perform-
er on radio and television, Miss
Pixley last year won the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra's
Young Pianists Contest. She
has appeared as soloist with the
symphony on two occasions.
The talented,• young musician
will be presented by the Music
Study Club in a program. at 8:15
p.m., Tuesday, in the lecture
hall of the Detroit Institute of
Arts.
Besides the piano, which she
studies with Margaret Manne-
bach, Miss Pixley is a gifted vio-
linist, being concertmaster of
the Cass Technical High School
orchestra. She studies violin
with Emily Mutter Adams.
The Luloff Scholarship is one
of many similar projects under-
taken by the Music Study. Club.
It is offered annually to an out-
standing, young pianist regard=
less of race; color creed, and
carries with it a grant for Study.

The Bar Mitzvahs of Samuel
Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Jesse Johnson; of 14876 Santa
Rosa, and Gerald Herbert Slut-
sky, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
.Slutsky, of 4661 W. Outer Dr.
will be observed on Saturday,
at Adas Shalom Synagogue.

their son, -Teddy, on March 26,

in Teddy's honor will be held

broken homes. Leib, a trustee
of Bellefaire, received the check
from Stuart I. Raskas, president
of the Roosevelt Chapter.
