Three-Story Building
In Ceremonies March 20

FEMPLE BETH EL: At Young People's Society Sabbath, at 8:30
p.m. today, Rabbi Minard Klein will preach on "To Have What
It Takes—The Challenge of Our Youth Today." At 11:15 a.m.
services Saturday, participants will be Paula Jackson, Frances
Levin, Lee Marks, Peter Quint and Barbara Woloveck.
CONG. AHAVAS ACHIM: Sabbath services at 5:30 and 9 p.m., to-
day. At 8:45 a.m. services Saturday, Rabbi Jacob Chinitz will
preach on "If God Is Everywhere Why a Sanctuary?" The Bar
Mitzvahs of Allen Lenard and Gerald Meyers will be observed.
NORTHWEST ISRAEL SYNAGOGUE: Sabbath services at 6 p.m.,
today. At 9 a.m. services Saturday, Rabbi Leo Y. Goldman will
speak on "Take for Me an Offering."
CONG. GEMILUTH CHASSADIM: Sabbath services at 6 p.m.. to-

Slates Square Dance

Dr. Allen N. Zeff, president of
the Young People's League of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek, announces
a barn dance at 8:30 p.m., Sun-
day, in the Synagogue social I
hall. Jim Schultheis and his
band will provide the music.
In charge of planning the
event are Dr. Harold Lefton,
pavida Robinson, Alvin Roth-
man, Harold Goodman, Pauline
Koenigsberg, Jack Stone, Ros-
lyn Clayman, Alvin Karp, Mari-
on Ruskin and Dr. Sidney Stone.
Entertainment and refresh-
ments have been planned. All
young adults in the community
are invited. Advance tickets may

They will also be available at
the door.

Orthodox Rabbis Plan
Chai Banquet, April 20

Representatives of 10 Detroit
Congregations responded to the
call of the Vaad Horabonim to
facilitate the issuance of the
rabbinical journal, in connec-
tion with the forthcoming "Chai
—the 18th anniversary banquet,
April 20.
The Yiddish section will be
edited by Rabbi Isaac Stollman,
dean of the Detroit Vaad Hora-
bonim, and the English section
by Rabbi Joshua Sperka.
A brunch meeting took place
recently at Horowitz Catering.
The gathering, presided over by
Rabbi Leizer Levin, included
Rabbis Isaac Stollman, Moses
Fischer, Jos e ph Rabinowitz,
Joshua Sperka, Max J. Wohlgel-
ernter, Solomon Gruskin, and
Israel T. Notis. Many communal
leaders were present.

Ahavas Achim Youth Group
will meet at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday,
in the synagogue social hall to
plan a Purim Masquerade Dance,
to be held March 15, in the syn-
agogue social hall.
Winners of dance contests at
the recent Sweetheart Ball in-
cluded Faygebeth Atlas, dance
sweetheart, and Nelson Gantz,
Linda Rubenstein, Gerald
Krause, Harriet Rosen, David
Lazarov, Bette Rossen, Sheldon
Spector and Janet Waserman.
The group participated in the
recent Brotherhood program of
the Men's Club, and on March
14 will present a model seder at
a meeting sponsored by the Sis-
terhood:

Yeshivah Beth Yehudah; only
Jewish day school in Michigan
with classes at the elementary,
secondary and college level, will
dedicate its new three story
structure at Dexter and Stur-
tevant on March 20.
- Nearly 30 local rabbis will
participate in the ceremonies,
which include affixing the tra-
ditional mezzuzah on each door-
post of the building.
Representatives of local con-
gregations, meeting under the
auspices of the Beth Yehudah
Synagogue C o u n c i 1, have
planned a month-long series of
events, to be climaxed by the
dedication.
Arrangements include a spe-
cial service this Sabbath at
Council-affiliated synagogues,
marking the Bar Mitzvah of the
construction of the original
building. • During this 13 year
interval, Yeshivah officials state
that enrollment
h a s increased
from 125 to 750
students.
A number of
other functions
are planned by
synagogues,
landsmansh a f-
t e n, parents,
alumni and
communal
groups.
A leading con-
tributor to the
Solai-Kaplan Yeshivah is
Mrs. Ida Solai-Kaplan, who re-
cently donated $1,000 to the
Beth Yehudah building fund.
Mrs. Solai-Kaplan supplements
from her income collections she
makes in the community.
In 1954, Mrs. Solai-Kaplan
distributed nearly $3,000 to
charities of all kinds, locally, na-
tionally and in Israel.

Home for Aged Marks Music Month
Tercentenary, With Fine Concert

tor Nicholas Fenakel.
Betty Kowalsky accompanied
Cantor Fenakel who sang solos.
Cantor Fenakel and Lois Haber
appeared in a duet and the lat-
ter sang a solo. There were
piano selections by Mrs. Norman
Allen.
Philip Slomovitz, chairman of
the Detroit Tercentenary Com-
mittee, was guest speaker, and
an address also was delivered by
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal.

A capacity audience exceeding
600 on Tuesday evening cele-
brated the American Jewish
Tercentenary and Jewish Music
Month at the Home for Aged.
Many were compelled to stand,
with every seat filled in the
large hall of the Home.

Planning Supper Dance

A supper - dance is b e i n g
planned by the Young Married
League of Cong. Shaarey Zedek
on March 6, in the synagogue's
social hall. The affair is the or-
ganization's big event of the
season.
Dancing will begin at 9 p.m.
to the music of F. Lozano and
his band, with cocktails to be
served at this time. Supper will

Temple Israel to Hold
Brotherhood Service

The annual Brotherhood serv-
ice of Temple Israel, held each
year during Brotherhood Week,
is planned fbr 8:30 p.m., today, in
the temple.
Rabbi Leon Fram, who has
just returned from the biennial
convention of the Union of
American Hebrew Congregations,
will preach the sermon on
"Brotherhood—Is It a Gadget or
Standard Equipment?"
Special guests of the congre-
gation will be fellow-members of
Dr. Fram in the Vortex Club and
Factfinders Club. Men and wom-
en of all ereeds have been in-
vited to services and to view the
temple's religious objects.
A social hour, at which mem-
bers of the Sisterhood will be
hostesses, will follow the service.

'Ask the Rabbi" Night Planned
For Evergreen Congregation

The next "Ask the Rabbi"
night of Evergreen Jewish Con-
gregation will be held on Tues-
day, at the home of the Ber-
kowitzes, 20221 Stout, according
to Dave Simon, congregation
president. Rabbi Sydney K.
Mossman will continue his dis-
cussion of Joshua Loth Lieb-
man's "Peace of Mind."
Tickets for a variety show,
scheduled for March 27 under
Lew Brown's direction, may be

New Color Film Outlines
Bnai Brith Israel Projects

The first moving picture to
show Bnai Brith projects in Is-
rael has just been released in
full color, it was announced by
Morris Alexander, chairman of
the Bnai Brith Israel committee.
Complete with sound and
musical background, prints of
the new film are available for
showing . to Bnai Brith lodges
and chapters throughout the
country. The film is called "A
Covenant with Israel," with nar-
ration by Alexander. It is pro-
duced on 16 mm. film and runs
"'OVEN CRISP" UNSALTED) MATZOtis
for 27 minutes.
