Orthodox Rabbis Plan Chai Banquet, April 20 Representatives of 10 Detroit Congregations responded to the call of the Vaad Horabonim to facilitate the issuance of the rabbinical journal, in connec- tion with the forthcoming "Chai —the 18th anniversary banquet, April 20. The Yiddish section will be edited by Rabbi Isaac Stollman, dean of the Detroit Vaad Hora- bonim, and the English section by Rabbi Joshua Sperka. A brunch meeting took place recently at Horowitz Catering. The gathering, presided over by Rabbi Leizer Levin, included Rabbis Isaac Stollman, Moses Fischer, Jos e ph Rabinowitz, Joshua Sperka, Max J. Wohlgel- ernter, Solomon Gruskin, and Israel T. Notis. Winners of dance contests at the recent Sweetheart Ball in- cluded Faygebeth Atlas, dance sweetheart, and Nelson Gantz, Linda Rubenstein, Gerald Krause, Harriet Rosen, David Lazarov, Bette Rossen, Sheldon Spector and Janet Waserman. The group participated in the recent Brotherhood program of the Men's Club, and on March 14 will present a model seder at a meeting sponsored by the Sis- terhood: RTIOROWITZ-MARGARETEN URE IEGG NOODLES Yeshivah Beth Yehudah; only Jewish day school in Michigan with classes at the elementary, secondary and college level, will dedicate its new three story structure at Dexter and Stur- tevant on March 20. - Nearly 30 local rabbis will participate in the ceremonies, which include affixing the tra- ditional mezzuzah on each door- post of the building. Representatives of local con- gregations, meeting under the auspices of the Beth Yehudah Synagogue C o u n c i 1, have planned a month-long series of events, to be climaxed by the dedication. Arrangements include a spe- cial service this Sabbath at Council-affiliated synagogues, marking the Bar Mitzvah of the construction of the original building. • During this 13 year interval, Yeshivah officials state that enrollment h a s increased from 125 to 750 students. A number of other functions are planned by synagogues, landsmansh a f- t e n, parents, alumni and communal groups. A leading con- tributor to the Solai-Kaplan Yeshivah is Mrs. Ida Solai-Kaplan, who re- cently donated $1,000 to the Beth Yehudah building fund. Mrs. Solai-Kaplan supplements from her income collections she makes in the community. In 1954, Mrs. Solai-Kaplan distributed nearly $3,000 to charities of all kinds, locally, na- tionally and in Israel. Home for Aged Marks Music Month Tercentenary, With Fine Concert chestra under the direction of Zinovi Bistritsky and the Adas Shalom Choir directed by Can- tor Nicholas Fenakel. Betty Kowalsky accompanied Cantor Fenakel who sang solos. Cantor Fenakel and Lois Haber appeared in a duet and the lat- ter sang a solo. There were piano selections by Mrs. Norman Allen. Philip Slomovitz, chairman of the Detroit Tercentenary Com- mittee, was guest speaker, and an address also was delivered by Rabbi Jacob E. Segal. A capacity audience exceeding 600 on Tuesday evening cele- brated the American Jewish Tercentenary and Jewish Music Month at the Home for Aged. Many were compelled to stand, with every seat filled in the large hall of the Home.
