Dr. Dov Biegun to Address
Histadrut Mid-Season Rally
Workers; delegates and friends
of the Detroit Israel Histadrut
Campaign will gather at a
mid-season rally, at 8:30 p.m.,
Thursday. at Young Israel Cen-
ter.
Dr. Dov Biegun, vice-presi-
dent of AMPAL, will be guest
speaker of the evening, and
Shoshana Brooks . Friedman,
popular Detroit singer, will .pre-
sent a program of Yiddish and
Hebrew songs,
As the campaign gathers
momentum, another. conference
of " the Landsmanshaften Divi-
sion has been called for 12:30
p.m., Sunday, at 13722 Linwood,
to plan the final phase of this
year's drive.
Meanwhile, officers of the
Histadrut Campaign continue
their optimism over results so
far attained in the drive.
Steady progress •in returns
and good attendance at divi-
sional report and breakfast
meetings each Sunday have
contributed to the wave of en-
thusiasm of drive leaders,
Though most divisions made
good showings in returns, a sur-
vey indicates that the past week
might have been termed "Labor
Zionist Week." Farband's Aria-
zaroff Branch led the parade of
returns with $5,000 added to its
1955 figure. Leading the list of
workers were S. Firestone, D.
Tabock, M. Schubiner, W. Gay-
marl, S. J. Greenberg, M. J.
Schaver and H. Schumer.

also led in drive efforts. Farband
Branch 552 indicated it will
probably increase last year's ef-
fort by a third. Jacob Glasser,
Histadrut chairman, reports
continued activity by M. Brod-;
sky, S. H. Greenberg and M.
Salinger.
Other divisions showing in-
creased action last week were
scrap metal, M. Saslove; profes-
sional, Drs. S. C. Stein and Hud-
son Rosenthal; Farband Branch
114, M. Chasnick and M. Abrams;
Pioneer Women, Mesdames F.
.Schreier, A. Salinger, S. Pine,
B. Hearshen, E. Lempert, J,
Kellman, Jennie -Glen and S.
Wesley.
Landsmanshaften grouPs were
paced by A. Wineman and Odes-
ser Society, with the unit only a
few hundred dollars below its
campaign goal.
Dr. Biegun, who will address
Thursday's rally, has been an
active Zionist since his youth.
He was associated with the
Jewish National Fund and
Jewish Agency and has raised
substantial loans for both.
Educated in British schools,
Dr. Biegun speaks 13 languages
fluently, including Hebrew and
Yiddish. He served in World War
II with the British Army in
France, the low countries and
Norway, and was a member of
the British War Crimes Investi-
gation Unit. He has achieved
fame as an orator and is popular
as a speaker before Jewish and
non-Jewish audiences.
