JDC Report Outlines 1955 Needs
Of Jews in European Countries
NEW YORK, (JTA)—Plans for
aid to Jews in France, Germany,
Austria and other European
countries during 1955 were made
public by the Joint Distribu-
tion Committee in a report
which outlines the needs of
Jews in Europe. The JDC also
operates in Israel and North
Africa.
JDC's budget for France —
$1,667,000—reflects the fact that
nearly two-thirds of the Jewish
population of continental Wes-
tern Europe, or nearly 300,000
currently live in France.
Regarding Germany, the JDC
states: "Some 25 percent of the
22,000 Jews in Germany receive
assistance from JDC welfare,
medical, legal, emigration or
other services on a more or less
continuous basis. These will

The young Medinat Yisrael has long
been seeking to install modern means
in its academic educational system in

the speedy integration of these students
into the life of the country, without its
having to send them all over the world
for their education.
Such an Educational Center is the
BAR-ILAN UNIVERSITY, which the
Mizrachi Organization of America is
establishing in Israel. This University
will be the first patterned after Ameri-
can Colleges with a curriculum follow-
ing an American Institution of higher
learning, yet imbued with strict loyalty
to the ancient traditions of our people.
Registration for Bar-Ilan University
begins in January, 1955. The official
dedication of Bar-Ilan University, at
Ramat Gan, will be in August, 1955.
The first eight buildings of the Uni-
versity have been completed, and an
additional five buildings will soon be
added. On the Committee of Academi-
cians are Dr. Pinkhos Churgin, who left
his position as Dean of the Teacher's
Seminary of Yeshiva University, to settle
in Israel and guide the Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity as its President-Designate; the
world-famous mathematician Prof. Y.
Ginsburg and noted professors from
many American universities.

committee for Bar-Ilan University are:
