Philip M. Klutznick, national
president of Bnai Brith, will
arrive here Wednesday for a
series of meetings and confer-
ences with civic and communal
leaders.
His agenda will start with a
10:30 a.m. visit with Louis C.
Miriani, Council president who
is acting mayor in Mayor Cobo's
absences. At 12:15 p.m., Klutz-
nick will address a luncheon of
communal leaders at the Shera-
ton Cadillac Hotel.

WC Branches Confer;
New Center Planned

Thirty delegates of Detroit
branches of Workmen's Circle
attended the annual Michigan
District Conference of the or-
ganization, Oct. 9 and 10, at
the W. C. Educational Center.
Joseph Bernstein, editor of
the Forward and chairman of
the Detroit Jewish Labor Com-
mittee, extended greetings. Dr.
Shmarya Kleinman spoke for the
board of the Michigan Labor
Committee for Human Rights.
Alex Levitt was nominated
for the two year term as Michi-
gan member of the national W.
C. board.
William Stern, national direc-
tor of IAT: C. English-speaking
division, and Robert Greene ad-
dressed the delegates. •
The delegates adopted a series
of resolutions on organizational
and community matters includ-
ing a resolution "to support the
candidates endorsed by t h e
great labor federations, the AFL
and the CIO".
Elected to the District Com-
mittee were Mrs. Nadia Henck-
en, Alex Levitt, Ben Rubinger,
Sam Levin, Saul Maltz, S a m
Sigal, Bernard Broder, Meyer
Schneider, David Feinn, Harry
Entin, Mrs. Mildred Brownston,
Mrs, Ruth Gottfurcht, Rudy
Africh, Robert Israel, Philip
Fabian, Nathan Baskin, Stan
Ovshinsky.
Tonight, members of all De-
troit W. C. Branches will meet
to hear a report from a study
committee charged with evalu-
ating the needs for a Center.

Shaarey Zedek Pageant Features Children

A lawyer and housing expert,
he was Federal Housing Com-
missioner from 1944 to 46. He
is president of the American
Community Builders, which de-
veloped Park Forest, Ill. into one
of the nation's leading com-
munity developments.

Mail Orders Pour in
For Opera Festival

Mail orders in response to
newspaper and direct advertis-
ing for Detroit's 12th annual
Opera FestiVal, Nov. 15 to 24, at
Masonic Temple, continue to
pour in at the Opera offices, 722
Hammond Building.
Three Detroit groups will have
parts in the operas. Dean Rob-
ert Nolan of the Nolan School
of Music is preparing to rehearse
a Negro choral group for "Show
Boat," as he did for previous
productions of "Show Boat" un-
der the banner of the Civic
Light Opera Association some
years ago. Celeste Cole will be
rehearsing a slave group for
'"Aida" as she has done often
before for the Opera Association.
And again a children's group is
still to be recruited for the pro-
duction of "Carmen."
Box offices will open October
25 at Masonic Temple, Grinnell's
and Bonaldi's as in other years.

The Men's Club and Sisterhood of Congregation Shaarey Zedek will present "A Journey Through
Time" pageant commemorating 300 years of Jewish life in America, in the Social hall of the
synagogue, Sunday night, at 8:30. A cast of 50 persons will take part in the program, featur-
ing Cantor Jacob Sonenklar. Children from the religious school who will also perform are:

ten' by Mrs. Irving Arlin, to cele-
brate the culmination of a suc-
cessful membership drive. The
