The Gringo, a 46-foot yawl
owned by Milton Levine and
Ivan Shalit, was one of the
boats entered in this year's
Port Huron to Mackinac yacht
race.
It is believed that this is the
first time a boat manned by a
Jewish crew has entered in the
competition. The boys finished
in a corrected time of 50 hours,
28 minutes and 34 seconds, and
although, at press time, all boats
had not arrived at Mackinac, it
appeared as if the Gringo had
placed 16th in the Class C com-
petition.
The Gringo's crew, composed
of Levine, Shalit, John Mayer,
Richard Kanner, Irwin Yackness
and David Hand, may cruise
back to Detroit at a more lei-
surely pace or may head for
Chicago to have a try at the
Chicago to Mackinac race.
