David J., of Detroit, and Abra-
ham, of Herzlia, Israel; a broth-
er, Dr. Philip R. Goldstein, of
New York City; and four grand-
children.. Mrs. Cohen, vice-presi-
dent of the Ladies Auxiliary of
Cong. Bnai David for many
years, was active in many com-
munal organizations.

UJA Pays Final Tribute
To Late Boston Leader

NEW YORK, (JTA) — The
United Jewish Appeal paid tri-
bute to the late Israel Fried-
lander, founder and first presi-
dent of • the Combined Jewish
Appeal of Greater Boston, who
died suddenly in Boston at the
age of 63.
Less than 24 hours before his
death he participated in a Com-
bined Appeal meeting. He was
also active in other Jewish or-
ganizations and was a board
member of the Associated Jew-
ish Philanthropies.
Mr. Friedlander, who was born
in Boston, was highly praised by
Edward M. M. Warburg, national
chairman of the UJA, and Dr.
Joseph J. Schwartz, UJA execu-
tive vice-chairman, for his hu-
manitarian activities on behalf
of needy Jews.

The
Official Gazette of Israel has an-
nounced the conversion of the
Jewish. National .Fund to an Is-
raeli corporation by. order of the
Minister of Justice, Dr. Peretz
Rosen. The JNF was originally
a British corporation.
(In New York, Mendel Fisher,
executive director of the JNF
of America, said that Dr. Rosen's
order was "gratifying" and re-
vealed that this move had been
planned for a long time. He
said the old corporation would
probably remain in existence
until all its assets were trans-
ferred to the new corporation.
He also stated that the news of
this action would be welcomed.

Senate Okays Gold Medal
