gagement of their daughter, Ar-
line Phyllis, to Pvt. Roy L. For-
man. of Blaine Ave., and the

The announcement was made
at a recent dinner given for the
young couple and their immedi-
ate families. Pvt. Forman, prior
to his induction in the U. S.
Army. attended the University of
Detroit.

Cancer Fighters Plan

Membership Drive;

Pioneer Women currently are
engaged in a regional member-
ship drive which will conclude

of the Detroit Council of Pioneer
Women.

Veterans Support
Korean Aid Drive

Wayne County veteran groups
have joined in the nation-wide
appeal for support of the Amer-
ican Korean Foundation with
the formation of the Veterans
Committee of the American Ko-
rean Foundation. Norman L.
Berkley, president of the Allied
Veterans Council of Wayne
county, is state chairman for
the veterans' groups. Vernon S.
Palmer heads local veteran par-
ticipation., .
National commanders of vet-
eran organizations are serving
on the national committee and
locally the drive is being backed
by units of the American Le-
gion, Amvets, Catholic War Vet-
erans, Disabled American Veter-
ans, Jewish War Veterans and
the Veterans of Foreign Wars. .1

James Mason Appears At Canadian Festival

Demand for tickets for the
Stratford Shakespearean Festi-
val of 1954 promised to match
if not to p the 1953 season.
As early as six months ahead,
ticket requests have come from
13 American States and nine
Canadian provinces. From
Washington, D.C. is a bulk re-
quest for the two opening
nights to be attended by a group
of over 100 people, including
critics of the four leading
Washington papers.
Detroit and Windsor have
made arrangements to ship bus-
loads to Stratford, commandeer-
ing seats for performances
throughout the entire season.
The festival performa n c e s
open on June 28 with "Measure

for Measure," directed by Cecil
Clarke, followed on June 29 by
"The Taming of the Shrew" di-
rected by Tyrone Guthrie.
"Oedipus Rex," also directed. by
Guthrie, is scheduled to open
July 15.
James Mason, British stage
and screen star, will play the
lead roles of Oedipus in "Oedi-
pus Rex" and Angelo in "Meas-
ure for Measure." For informa-

Hotel, recently, were Lois Mer-
lene Ernstein, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Abraham Ernstein, of
Pennington Dr., and Seymour J.
Levine, son of the David Levines,
of Sussex Ave.
The bride's gown of white
Italian pure silk taffeta was
trimmed with Alencon lace
petals and seed pearls at the
neckline. Her hooped skirt cas-
caded over panniers to end in a
circular train. From a cap of
matching lace, trimmed with
seed pearls, was attached a fin-
gertip veil of French illusion,
and she carried white orchids
and stephanotis. Carol Ernstein,
the bride's sister, was junior
bridesmaid, while Elaine Ressler
was maid of honor, and Mrs.
Robert Ernstein was matron of
honor. Hershel Levine was best
man, and ushers included Earl
and Robert Ernstein.
Following a dinner and recep-
tion, the newlyweds honeymoon-
ed in Miami Beach and Havana.
On their return, they will reside
in Detroit.
