Washington Registers Groups Seeking
To Develop Oil Production in Israel
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — The
Securities and Exchange C o m -
mission announced the filing of
registration statements by com-
mercial interests wishing to sell
stock to finance the exploration,
development and production of
oil and gas in Israel.
Pan-Israel Oil Co., of the Re-
public of Panama, filed a state-
m e n t seeking registration of
American voting trust certifi-
cates for 1,000,000 shares of com-
mon capital stock, one percent,
par to be offered for public sale
"as a speculation." The company
was organized under the Pan-
ama corporation law for the
purpose of seeking ant develop-
ing gas and oil in Israel.
The company has outstanding
4. 192,000 shares, of which 3,892,-
000 shares were issued to the so-
called Buckley-Newkirk groups
in exel-dage for the assignment
to the company of licenses
granted by the Petroleum Com-
missioner of Israel for the ex-
' ploration and development o f
certain petroleum interests in
Israel. The Pantepec Oil Corn-
' pang of Caracas, Venezuela, has
entered into an agreement with
Pan-Israel for drilling opera-
tions.

ranean Corp., Inc., of the Re-
public of Panama, seeking reg-
istration of the same number of
•shares as Pan-Israel and for the
same purpose. The Mediterran-
ean Petroleum Corp. has also

versity in Israel. It provides edu-
cational counseling and social
activities as well as religious
services. The Frankel Memorial
Building at the University of Illi-
nois is one of 47 Bnai Brith Hil-
lel buildings and among the 17
such structures added to the
university scene in the United
States, Canada and Israel by
the Bnai Brith Hillel Founda-
tions since the close of World
War II.
New Austrian Proposals
On Jewish Claims Awaited
TEL AVIV, (JTA)—The Jewish
Claims Committee on Austria is
"awaiting" new proposals from
the Austrian government for re-
newal of negotiations" on the
Jewish demands, Dr. Nahum
Goldmann, head of the claims
committee, revealed here.
Dr. Goldmann said that "with-
in a fortnight we will know
where we stand—whether we
continue or break off contact."

recent meeting of the executive
board of the conference on Jew-

ments were allocated to various
Jewish groups for relief, reha-
bilitation and cultural projects,
Dr. Goldmann stated that 90
percent of the resolutions and
decisions taken at the meeting
were adopted unanimously.
From Israel Dr. Goldmann will
proceed to Bonn to confer with
German authorities on various
reparations problems as well as
on the question of expediting
individual claims for restitution
and indemnification presented
by victims of the Nazi regime.
Philip Ash Called by Death
Philip Ash, 46, of 8300 N. Cam-
bridge, died last Friday. A life-
long Detroit resident, he was
co-owner of Ash Paint Co.

Mrs. Thomas Marwil Dies at 45
Mrs. Josephine Marwill, 45, of
8049 Hendrie, Huntington Woods,
died Saturday at Sinai Hospital.
She was a lifelong Detroit resi-
dent, a graduate of Liggett
School and was active in many
local organization.
