Support Testimonial
For Rabbi Meisels

Landsmanshaften and frater-
nal organizations are joining in
support of the testimonial din-
ner, which will be tendered to
Rabbi Chaim Meisels, the Sarv-
asher Rebbe, and his family on
the occasion of his completing
three years of residence in De-
troit.
The testimon-
ial will be held

The guest speaker will be
Rabbi Hirsh Meisels, brother of
the honored guest, from Chi-
cago, Ill.
Since coming to Detroit, Rabbi
Chaim Meisels has pledged him-
self to furthering this city's Or-
thodox life, and toward this end
has established and been spirit-
ual leader of Cong. Khal Chare-
dim.
Born in Hungary, Rabbi Meis-
els, his wife and five of their
eight children escaped from the
Nazis during World War II. Fol-
lowing liberation, he was named
chairman of t h e Rabbinical
Council of Berlin's British Zone,
and contributed much to the
welfare of DPs.
In 1946, Rabbi Meisels left for
Montverensi, France where he
established and was director of
the Yeshivath Sheerit Yisroel.

First Galician Groups
install New Officers

At a joint installation dinner,
held Dec. 27, at Zack's, new of-
ficers of the First Galician So-
ciety of Detroit and its Worn-
en's Auxiliary were inducted
into office, with Rabbi Israel I.
Halpern leading the ceremonies.
Heading the Auxiliary will be
Mrs. Anna Goldberg, president,
who will be assisted by Mes-
dames Regina Wauldron, vice-
president; Ruth Fisher, treas-
urer; Sabina Mohr and Rose
Genser, secretaries; Gussie Ring-
ler, Sadie Roth, Gussie Bornstein,
sick and cheer-up committee.
New officers of the men's
group are Ben Genser, presi-
dent; Sam Kanfer, vice-presi-
dent; Ruby Teicher, treasurer;
and Jacob Reifler, secretary.
Morris Goldsmith was toast-
master at the installation ban-
guet.

the Yeshivah, is indicative of the growth of
the Beth Yehudah Schools whose enrollment
12 years ago wen it moved to its present site
was 125 students. Today, 722 students attend
the institution.

Lawrence E. Spivak at Shaarey Zedek
`Meet the Press' Program on Jan. 13

A special "Meet the Press"
program, arranged by the Men's
Club of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek for Wednesday evening,
Jan. 13, will present Lawrence
E. Spivak, whose radio and TV
appearances have given him na-
tional fame.
Dr. Max Lichter has been
chosen to preside at the pro-
gram, with the following form-
ing a panel of Shaarey Zedek
members who will submit ques-
tions to Mr. Spivak on issues of
national interest:
Belle Shugarman, president,
Shaarey Zedek S i s t e r h o o d,
Charles Rubiner and Norman
Snider.
Spivak has won wide atten-
tion and acclaim as an astute
questioner of prominent people
on important national and in-
ternational questions. He goes
direct to the authority on the
question involved, be it a con-

To Dedicate Sixty
At Sabbath Service

Cong. Bnai Moshe will hold "A
Dedication to Jewish Learning"
program at 8:15 p.m. sabbath
services on Jan. 8.
The special service, which will
dedicate almost 60 children in
the first grade in the synagogue's
religious schoo I, has been
planned to bring them closer to
a Jewish life through a symbolic
understanding of the tradition
of the Jewish people.
Mrs. Florence Zacks and Miss
Marjorie Freeman, teachers of
the children, will lead them in
the program, in which all will
participate.
Rabbi Moses Lehrman will ad-
dress parents and con.gregants
on "Dedication to Jewish Life."
Gifts will be presented to the
youngsters by Mitchell Feldman,
chairman of the school board,
and Walter Farber, school direc-
tor will speak briefly on the sub-
jects to be taught children dur-
ing the coming 10 years.

The youth group of Cong.
Ahavas Achim, which meets on
alternate Tuesday nights in the
synagogue social hall, will hold
its next meeting this Tuesday at
7:30 p.m.
With rehearsals under way,
directed by Mrs. Ruth Chinitz,
the drama group will offer its
annual production on March 20
and 21. Three performances,
Saturday night, Sunday matinee
and Sunday night, will be
offered at the Vernor School.

Rovner to Install Officers

Officers for 1954 will be in-
stalled at the Rovner Progres-
sive Farein dinner-dance Satur-
day, Feb. 6, at Lachar's on Dex-
ter. Jack Gubow, chairman for
this 27th annual affair, reports
that the educational committee
is preparing a memorable eve-
ning.
