Pre-Campaign Activity Stirs
Histadrut Workers to Action

Among the many groups ad-
dressed by Mrs. HADASSAH
SAMUEL, who visited here for
the Detroit Histadrut Cam-
paign, was Arlazaroff Branch
13 17 of the Farband. Here,
WILLIAM GAYMAN, shows
the 40 slips he covered in his
"one-man" pre-campaign drive
in her honor.

The 1954 Histrdrut drive, dedi-
cated to a four-point program
of rehabilitation, health, youth
training and culture, has set
its goal at $5,000,000. The local
quota is $250,000.
Harry Schumer, executive
board chairman locally, ex-
pressed the group's confidence
that Detroit will reach its quota,
although he added the admoni-
tion that successful completion
of the drive depends on the
complete support and coopera-
tion of each canvasser.
Maurice Samuel, author, and
Shoshana Shushan, attractive,
young, Israeli opera star will
share the spotlight at the Jan.
13 opening event. .
Beginning at 11:45 a.m., Jan.
10, the radio series "Histadrut
on the Air" will be broadcast
over radio station WJBK. Di-
rected by Louis Levine, the pro-
gram will bring to Detroit's
air audience prominent Israeli
personalities and news, cam-
paign highlights and progress
reports.

Between Judaism and Americanism

Pre-campaign events in prep-
aration for the official opening
of the • Detroit Histadrut Cam-
paign on Jan. 13, at Temple Is-
rael, are being met with greater-
enthusiasm than ever before in
the history of the local drive, it
was reported this week by a
Campaign spokesman.
Citing a gathering at Adas
Shalom Synagogue last Satur-
day, at which 350 business col-
leagues and friends paid tribute
to Leo Spector, the spokesman
stated that the banquet marked
the opening of the drive for the
Scrap Metal Division.
The fete for Spector, for many
years a devoted worker in the
community and for Israel, was
attended by 350 of his family,
friends and associates in the
scrap metal business.
Sparking the program, at
which it was announced that
funds raised by the division
would go toward the construc-
tion of a medical center at
Gedera, Israel, were Zev Baeri,
Israel economist, Morris Lieber-
man, drive chairman, and Sam-
uel G. Keywell, who represented Rabbi Emmanuel Rackman, who
will be in Detroit as guest speak-
the industry.
