Pioneer Women Set $55,000 Donor Goal
To Complete Children's Village in Isiael

the village so, that facilities may
be bt>ilt for the remaining 300
who will soon be sent.

The donor, scheduled for 8:30
p.m., Dec. 13, in the auditorium

of world and Jewish affairs, as
guest speakers and the Lind
Brothers, popular singing stars
of stage, radio and television, as
principal artists.
Proceeds will be sent to Moat-
•zot Hapoalot, which means
Working Women's Council and
which is the sister organization
of Pioneer Women in Israel. In
Israel, these funds will be trans-
lated into action 'in sponsoring a
E.•+,work of 225 institutions which
provide social services for wom-
en and children in the fields of
education, culture and welfare.
In the institutions maintained,
an estimated 25,000 children are

mediate families in the home of
the bride's parents. Corinne
Wiener, sister of the bridegroom,
was the bride's • only attendant.
The bridegroom's best man was
David Theodore Goldstick, the
bride's twin brother.
Mrs. Wiener is a senior at
Smith College. She formerly at-
tended the University of Michi-
gan, and is a member of Alpha
Epsilon Phi sorority. Mr. Wiener
is a graduate of Bvown • Univer-
sity and Columbia University's
Law School. He currently is
serving in the armed forces, and
is stationed at Fort Dix, N. J.
BRENNER-SCHWARTZ. In a
ceremony Nov. 12, performed by
Dr. A. M. Hershman, Lillian
Schwartz became the bride of
Ben Brenner. Following a honey-
moon in Los Angeles, Calif., the
couple will reside in Detroit.
Landsmanshaften Plan
`Tribute to Israel'
Detroit Lancismanshaften So-
cieties passed a, unanimous vote
to name their annual bond func-
tion "Tribute to the State of Is-
rael." The event will take place
Sunday, Dec. 27, 7 p.m., at Beth
Aaron Synagogue, 18000 Wyom-
ing.
Admission to the affair is by
purchase of an Israel bond

said.

The Inter-Congregational Bas-
_ketball League will open its
1953-54 season at 7 pin., Mon-
day, in the Durfee Intermediate
School gymnasium. Six teams
comprise this year's league, ac-
cording to Edward Rothenberg,
adult advisor and president.
The six participating congre-
gations are Bnai David, Bnai
Moshe. Shaarey Zedek, Temple
Beth El, Temple Israel and Beth
Aaron, the latter the league's
newest member.
Rothenberg has announced
the appointment of Herinan
Fishman, former star athlete at
the University of Michigan and
an owner Of Camp Michigama,
as director of the league.
Under Fishman's guidance,
many interesting activities have
been planned, including a pep
rally honoring the players on all
teams, a dance to follow the
games and an award banquet.
Any young man of' high school
age whose par-
ents belong to a
synagogue par-
ticipating in the
league is eligible

extended into a traditional train.
Her silk illusion veil was three-
tiered and was caught to her
head by a lace crown, trimmed
with matching seed pearls. Her
bouquet was composed of orchids
on a mother-of-pearl Bible.
Lois Shapiro, the bride's sister,
was maid of honor, and brides-
maids included Ruby Freedman,
Sandra Rosenthal, Barbara
Reiner and Norma Schiff. San-
dra Levine was junior brides-
maid.
The bridegroom, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Morris Freedman, of
2903 Waverly, was served by his
brother, Arthur Freedman, as
best man. Seating the guests
were Louis Silver, Charles Tenor,
Sheldon Eichler and Walter
Siporin. Donald Freedman was
junior usher.
Following dinner and a recep-
tion in the synagogue, the young
couple left for a honeymoon in
