Ibn Saud's Death Recalls
Shocking FDR Statement
The death of King Ibn Saud
of Saudi, Arabia revives interest
in the Arab ruler's antagonism
to Israel. Re-
views of his life
in the press
place emphasis
on his coopera-
tion with the
West in spite of
his anti-Israel
position. Jewry
will especially
think of him,
however, as the
man who in-
Ibn Saud spired the late
President Franklin D. Roosevelt
to say that he had learned more
about the Palestinian issue in
five minutes from Ibn Saud than
he had from all previous con-
ferences on the subject. It was
the most shocking revelation to
have come over the airways aft-
er FDR's visit with Ibn Saud.

Herman Cohen, now produc-
ing films in Hollywood, Calif.,
was in Detroit last week to visit
his family and friends. Cohen
had just returned from London,
England where he was filming
his latest picture, "River Beat,"
starring Phyllis Kirk.
While here, he visited with his
father, Meyer Cohen; and a sis-
ter, Mrs. William Banks, of 2924
Tuxedo. He brought with him
reviews of London movie critics,
in which "River Beat" was des-
cribed as a fine picture.
A graduate of Central High,
Cohen started in the movie buSi-
ness at 17 when he was manager
of the Dexter Theater. Before
leaving for Hollywood, he was a
salesman for Columbia Pictures.
In partnership with another
producer, Cohen's firm is known
as Abtson Productions. Other
movies that will shortly be re-
leased are "Ghost Ship" and
"Undercover Agent."
