THERE ARE NO officers this
year in the Businessmen's Coun-
cil of the Beth Yehudah Schools
. but the fact that all mem-
bers have equal status as just
plain privates, so to speak,
doesn't alter the situation
whereas 730 kids will again have
an opportunity to receive ad-
ditional education through this
group . . Samuel B: Solomon,
Arthur Klein, David Goldberg,
Daniel A. Laver, A. Howard
Bloch. B e n j a m i n Freedland,
Louis H. Golden, Samuel Hecht-
man. Abe Green and Harry Le-
vine comprise this year's Busi-
nessmen's Council who, for the
first time, will combine their ef-
forts with the Yeshivah's sup-
porting synagogue groups in
presenting a joint fund-raising
shindig, Sunday evening, Nov.
29, at the Latin Quarter ... fea-
turing Moishe Oysher and comic
"Mi?helle" Rosenberg, who likes
to kid about Dave Goldberg,
telling the story about a manu-
facturer friend of Dave's who,
on his deathbed, named six
and explained that as long as
they had carried him so long
that they might as well finish
the job! . . . Oysher, of course.
is one of the greatest cantorial
sin gers of all time.

AT A TEA, attended by a
number of university faculty
wiveq, Miriam Joffe, wife of Jew-
ish Community Council boss-
mo 0, Boris' Joffe, overheard a
conversation being carried on by
a orc, io of women present about
the exodus of many college pro-
fessor:3 these days from their
te:el-.lng . posts' to much better
pay:ng jobs with the various
well-heeled foundations • . . .
Sure n a rized one of the women
in the group, "It looks as though
the fashion trend is from aca-
demic robes to foundation gar-
ments."

ON A RECENT Sunday •after-
noon, Nov. 8. to be exact, a
dream of a noted local surgeon
came true . . . He performed,
neither in a hospital nor with
a scalp e 1, but on the con-
cert stage and with a fiddle and
bow . . . Years ago, when Dr.
Aaron Farbman studied medi-
eine and music at the same time
at New York's Columbia Uni-
versity, he found himself con-
fronted with a far-reaching de-
cision when he had to choose
the profession for his future .. .
He loved both alike, so the
choice was difficult . . . He went
to consult the famous Russian
Professor Leopold -Auer, the
teacher of H e i f etz, Elman,
Mischakoff and other world re-
known violinists, who told him
that the path to an artistic ca-
reer was a rather precarious one
and that he would do better to
choose medicine, which would be
more certain . . . He took the
master's advice and eventually
became a surgeon, but always
remained devoted to music as
his most preferred avocation .. .
For the past few years he has
been assistant concertmaster of
the Jewish Center Symphony
. Orchestra under Julius Chajes'
direction ... Nov. 8, he was one
of the soloists in the Bach Con-
certo in D Minor for two violins
together with Hortense Mischa-
koff . . . and the dream come
true of Dr. Farbman was one
that will never be forgotten .. .
by neither himself nor the audi-
ence.

MYRON KEYES, president of
the Home for Aged, was missed
•by the kids in the neighborhood
during the past Hallowe'en . . .
because of the thrill he would
always get when the children
came around begging in the tra-
ditional manner . . . For years,
he and Mrs. Keyes would get out
their sterling silverware and set
up a snack for the little beggars
and make a real night of it by
showing them a good time . .
This year, with Myron recuper-
ating from an illness at Sinai
Hospital, Susan Goldberg, Sally
Jo Sorack • and Bobby Sorack
pitched in the pennies they had I
been saving to buy him a beau-
tiful bouquet of flowers as their
part in remembering him . .
The children may not realize it,
but this gesture meant a great
deal more to Myron than just
saying . thanks . . . they didn't
see the tears in his eyes when
he received the flowers.

An ultra-modern hotel, fea-
turing observance of dietary
laws, will open in Miami Beach
on Dec. 8. The 150-room hotel
has been named the Sterling,
and is located on the ocean at
6767 Collins.
Owned and managed by David
Rosner, veteran hotel operator,
the Sterling will combine strict
dietary rules with "culinary art
at its best." The first dairy pool
side snack bar in the world will
be a comfortable novelty for
swimmers and sunbathers, with
all food from the snack bar serv-
ed with the compliments of the
management.
In order to devote his full
time to the opening and operat-
ing of the Sterling, Rosner has
discontinued all association with
other Miami Beach hotels that
he previously owned.
An atmosphere of informality
prevails throughout the hotel,
which highlights men's and
women's solaria, adequate park-
ing facilities and a private syna-
gogue. Daily services will be
held in the synagogue, with spe-
cial services for Passover and
other holidalys.
