The term "Apocalypse" or
"Apocalyptic" comes from a
Greek term "Apokalypsis" which
is a combination of two forms-
"apo" meaning "off" and "kalyp-
tein" which means to cover. In
this sense the term "Apocalypse"
would have reference to a liter-
ature which "uncovers" or "un-
veils" certain secrets of the uni-
verse. This term was particular-
ly popular among Christians. In
Jewish or general circles it has
been used loosely to connote any
literature that tends to unveil
to the human mind what will
happen in the future, such as
the Resurrection of the dead,
the coming of the Messiah, or, in
'general any eschatological liter-
ature. A book of the Hebrew
Canonical Bible which is consid-
ered apocalyptic is the Book of
Daniel; although in much of the
official prophetic writings of the
Hebrews we find the prophets
telling of visions they have seen
of the past or the future. In
those books, which are not an
official part of the Hebrew Bible
we find quite a great deal of
such literature. The rabbis in
the literature of the post-Bibli-
cal period and the Middle Ages
either composed or gathered a
great deal of such literature.

college curriculum the other day
when he was awarded a "Doctor
of Humor" degree by the City
College of New York. In making
the presentation, the college
president said: "Dr. of Humor
is a most appropriate title for
Harry. Doctor in its colloquial
sense has always referred to a
healer. Harr y, through the
many years he has been a rank-
ing comedian of importance, has
always managed to have a ready
laugh, a jovial joke, to cheer and
inspire the weary and disheart-
ened."
