Incognito Son of Nazi Stays Three Weeks in Israel

TEL AVIV, (J'IA) — Thomas
Harlan, son of Nazi film pro-
ducer Veit Harlan, was in Israel
for three weeks, officials re-
vealed. They said Harlan was
incognito, and that they did not
know of his presence in the
country until after he left.
The announcement said that
Harlan, who introduced himself

as Thomas Isitizah of the Made-
leine film studios of Paris, had
been preparing for the shooting
of a documentary film about Is-
rael. He and a collaborator
visited various parts of the
country making test shots and
preparing the way for a film
company with which he plans to
return to Israel later.

5-Year Jewish Community
Center Building Activity
Reaches $45,000,000 Sum

NEW YORK—New structures
completed and occupied, build-
ings in construction, and those
in the planning stage for Jew-
ish Community Centers in all
sections of the U.S. and in Can-
ada totalled approximately $45.-
000,000 during the past five
years, it is reported by the Na-
tional Jewish Welfare Board, on
tne eve of the nationwide cele-
bration of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center movement's Centen-
nial. The JWB is the national
association of Centers and
Young Men's and Young Wom-
en's Hebrew Associations.
The study of Jewish Commu-
nity Center and YM-YWHA
building activity, covering the
period Sept. 1, 1948, to Sept. 1,
1953, was made public by Mrs
Walter E. Heller of Chicago,
chairman of JWB's Jewish Cen-
ter Division, which renders a
complete, year-round program of
service to the Centers and Ys.

The first consignment of phosphates for export from the mines
of Israel's "Big Crater," which are being exploited with assistance
of State of Israel Bonds, is shown being loaded aboard the Israeli
vessel "Rimon" at Haifa. The trial shipment of 500 tons, which
was sent to Italy, is expected to be the forerunner of a series of
shipments which will constitute an important element in Israel's
twenty-year "master plan" for the utilization of its mineral re-
sources. The plan, made public by Israel Minister of Finance
Levi Eshkol, will cost about $55,000,000.
