Mrs. Fania Howard of Birmingham, England, is the guest of
her *cousins, Miss Edna Tobiri and Messrs. and Mesdames Jack
and Louis Tobin. -
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Fishman, 5441 W. Outer Drive, honor-
ed their daughter, Dena, With a sweet sixteen dinner party June
23 at the Elmwood Casino. The following guests attended: Mr.
and Mrs. Mitchell Fishman, Shelda Sklar and Al Sobel, Carol
Barnett and David Fishman, Donna Baker and Robert Redlick,
Edie Cooper and Larry Sherman, Anita Finkelman and Austin
Hirshhoeri, Aline Lappin. and Don Schmeron, Elly Krouse and Bert
Stillinan, Marlene Risin and Bob Greenstein, Nancy Blanke and
Bob Wartell, Linda Karp and Dick Goale, Judy Cohen and Dave

Dena's host of the evening was Jerry Hoshkovitz.
The annual garden party given by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thav, of
2512 Cortland, this year honored Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rubin, of
Elmhurst Ave., on their 18th wedding anniversary, and also served
as a farewell to Mrs. Rubin and her daughters, Carol and Donna,
who left Thursday for a two month visit in California with Mrs.
Rubin's parents. Over 100 guests enjoyed the affair, which fea-
tured a buffet style dinner and square dancing in the adjacent
garden of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Olshansky.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stiglitz and son, Bruce, of 18024 Northlawn,
have _left for Westwood,• Calif., where they will visit their chil-
dren, Mr. and Mrs Roger Strule, Jr.
Mr. Sam Stiglitz, of Los Angeles, Calif., has returned home
following a visit here with his brothers, Jack and Harry Stiglitz.
Mrs. Yetta Weisblatt has returned- to her home here follow-
ing a visit to Philadelphia and New York.
Miss Laurie Silver and Miss Ellen Sherman have returned
from a weekend trip to Holland, Mich. They were the guests of their
University of Michigan schoolmate, Miss Judy Subar, • of Grand
Rapids, at her summer cottage.

MRS. EDWIN KOOPERMAN

In a ceremony June 15, in the
Statler Hotel, Davee Beth Smar-
gon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Maurice A. Smargon, of Fair-
field Ave., became the bride of
Edwin B. Kooperman, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kooperman,
of Chicago, Ill. The ceremony
was performed by Rabbi Morris
Adler.
The bride chose a gown of an-
tique satin, trimmed in alencon
lace, with a fitted bodice and
flared skirt which ended in a
traditional train. Her cap of
matching lace was held in place
with orange blossoms, from
which fell a veil of antique, silk
illusion. The bride carried a
cascade of carnations, gardenias
and rhododendron leaves.
Mrs. Arnold H. Rosman, sister
of the bride, was. matron of
honor, and bridesmaids were
Miss Norma Kooperman and
Mrs. Morton Kaplan. Marshall
Stein was best man, and ushers
included Arnold H. Rosman and
Morton Kaplan.
The bridegroom will leave for
Japan following a honeymoon
in California. •

H. N. Ehrlich to Head Scholarship Committee

Harold N. Ehrlich has been
appointed chairman of the'
Committee on Jewish Scholar-
ship Service by Samuel H. Rub-
iner, president of the Jewish
Welfare Federation. Ehrlich as-
sumes the duties formerly held
by Mrs. Benjamin E. Jaffe, who
served as chairman.of the group
for the past six years.
Rubiner stated that during her
tenure of office Mrs. Jaffe's
leadership was instrumental in
providing scholarship assistance
to deserving members of the
community.
"We feel most fortunate that
Mr. Ehrlich has accepted • the
post of chairman," he contin-
ued. "His sincere interest and
years of experience in this field
will be of great benefit to the
committee and to the commu-
nity." Ehrlich has been the
committee representative of the
Clara Ehrlich Memorial Fund
since, its inception.
The present committee was an
outgrowth of the Jewish Wel-
fare Federation's subcommittee
on scholarship service formed in
late 1946 to coordinate planning
and recommend action on schol-
arship fund resources and needs

In its seven years of serving .
the community, the committee

received applications totalling
approximately $45,000 " in re:-
quested assistance of which it
approved loans or grants total-
ing some $30,000.
The committee is now com-
posed of 22 scholarship funds.
All applicants for these funds
interviewed by the staff of the
Jewish Vocational Service before
presentation to the Committee.

A. Weinstein was host to over two hundred guests last Sunday
at the Bel Are Terrace Room. The occasion was the marriage of
his lovely daughter.

Mr. Weinstein, popular meat dealer, chose for his wedding
dinner the finest standing ribs available on the market; and they
were prepared au jus as only our chefs are experienced to prepare
them. Everyone was so completely satisfied and so utterly contented
after they delighted their palates with the wonderful dinner that they
seemed to be floating on air. The dinner was topped off incidentally
with a flaming dessert that gave just the right glow to the menu.
