NATIONAL ATTENTION has
been received by the Lt. Ray-
mond Zussman Post of the
Jewish War Veterans < . . for
its offer to provide leader dogs
to blinded veterans .. . regard-
less of race or. creed, anywhere
in the country . . . entirely at
the expense of the Post.

GEORGE MILLMAN, of Dover
Lane Clothes, in town visiting
tailor Steve Petix, came up with a
true story that happened re-
cently to a lady friend of
George . . . Standing in a crowd-
ed New York bus on Fifth Ave.,
on her way to work, she kept
worrying over the age-old prob-
lem whether or not her slip
was showing . . . Unable to twist
around sufficiently to see, she
put the question directly to a
small boy standing next to her
. "No ma'am," he informed
her politely . . . A few blocks
farther she alighted and started
to move briskly along crowded
Fifth Avenue . . Then, to her
horror, she was hailed by the
voice of the little boy calling to
her as the bus went by, yelling
at the top of his lungs, "Your
slip is showing now, lady, .it's
showing now

THE PANGS OF radio's battle
against encroachments of tele-
vision were the subject of one
of Alec Miller's recent quips . . .
Paraphrasing the slogan used in
the anti-tuberculosis campaign,
Alec declared that every radio
station will soon sport a can-
ister and broadcast • a regular
appeal to "Help Stamp Out TV."

BARBARA SUSAN, three-
year-old daughter of Dave and
Dorothy Glantz, is a lucky
young lady . . . after falling 30
steps at home . . and recover-
ing with scarcely a scratch on
her little body . . . She fell 15
steps onto a ramp, bounced off,
and fell 15 more steps before
reaching the bottom . . • Her
parentS are thanking God and
at the same time clinging to the
adage that He protects little
children and drunks.

WATCH REPAIR ER Nate
Taub _ looked at the miscellane-
ous collection of tiny wheels
and springs a customer had
deposited on the counter and
said, "Are you sure this was
once a watch?" . • The cus-
tomer assured him that it was,
and lamented the fact that he
never should have dropped it
"Dropping it, you couldn't help,"
said Nate. "But tell me, why did
you bother picking it up?"

INTERESTED IN keeping
trespassers off Your lawns and
shubbery this summer? . . . Try
one of these gentle hints . .
"Don't ruin the gay young
blades" or "Your feet are killing
me."

IRVING GLUKLICK of Na-
tional Wholesale Clothiers, tells
of the man who came in a
couple of weeks ago with his
wife to buy a suit . . . Whenever
he liked one, she cried, "Take it
off. It's terrible." . . . Finally,
however, she grew tired of the
argument and said, "Alright,
suit yourself, after all, you're
the one who'll have to wear it"
. . The man corrected her
quietly, "That goes for the coat
and vest, anyway."

DISA 'N DATA . . . The flash-
es of summery weather bringing
out the buggy parade on Dexter
Blvd. . . and closing it up in a
hurry when the chills came
again . < Authoress-president
of the Infant Service Group,

Rosalind May, receiving well

wishes galore after joining the
New York Life Insurance Co. as
a part of its new Women's Di-
vision . . . OVER-HEARD ON A
SECOND AVE. BUS: "You know,
I wouldn't say anything about
Dolly unless I could say some-
thing good. And oh, brother, is
this good .. " . . . Jerry Lewis,
appearing at the Fox Theater
with partner, Dean Martin, tell-
ing a gathering of us about the
battered heavyweight who re-
fused a thousand-dollar bribe to
"take a dive" in the second
round of a bout with a highly
publicized and overrated new-
comer . The battered pug's
explanation was, "I never last-
ed till the second round yet,
and I ain't gonna start now.
The time I fought Joe Louis, I
had him plenty worried,
though," added the pug. "He
thought he'd killed me!" . • .
Jerry went on telling about
Hollywood's most distinguished
language - assassin (with a
promise not to reveal his name)
Who was asked to a dinner and
announced regretfully, "I can't
make it, -but I hope you'll give
me a raincoat! . . . He turned
down an inyitation to the Mardi
Gras in New Orleans, too, say-
ing, "Even if they had it in the
streets, I wouldn't go." . . . Helen
Rosenberg a definite choice to
be re-elected as president of the
City of Hope Cancer Fighters at
election of new officers this
Wednesday evening.
