Jew - Must Not View Rosenberg Case
As `Catastrophe,' Dr. Lerner Warns
An admonition to Jewry not to view the case of the Rosen-
bergs, who have been condemned to death on the charge
of espionage, as a "catastrophe" is contained in Max Lerner's col-
umn, "Two Who Will Die." in the New York Post. Dr. Lerner
wrote:
President Eisenhower's denial
of the Rosenberg plea is no oc-
casion either for exulting or for
bitter clamor. If anyone feels a
sense of jubilation because this
pitiable pair will now die, let
him search hert for what-
ever it is that kindles such a
fin out of such tragic materials.
But if I call the whole Rosen-
berg case a tragic one, I do not
mean that there has been any
miscarriage of justice. This is
no Sacco-Vanzetti frameup or
martyrdom. It is a shabby story,
that has assumed_world import-
ance, of warped personalities

Why then did so many people
hope the President woulr' com-
mute the sentence? Because

Rosenbergs are worth more dead
