"IN THE PRESENCE of these
parents we stand on humble
ground . . . . . . and so went
Rabbi Morris Adler's message to
about 300 attendees of the Gold
Star Parents Golden Book Din-
ner, recently, at the Davison
Center . . . This is the organiza-
tion,. that was brought together
through tragedy and is bound
by the ties of personal grief for
sons who have given the su-
preme sacrifice . . . It is the only
Gold Star Parents Association in
the country and remains the
nucleus for attempts being made
to organize other such groups in
America.
THE GOLD STAR Memorial
Project contains a hope of build-
ing a memorial in granite to
those Jewish boys who gave
their lives' in the service of our
country . . The Golden Book,
when completed, will contain a
biographical sketch and picture
of. all the Jewish boys of Detroit
who gave their lives during
World War II and the Korean
War.
SO WONDERFUL an organi-
zation is the Gold Star Parents
that whatever cooperation they
need in whatever undertaking
they seek to do is immediately
offered . . . Commanders of
JI,VV posts and presidents of
auxiliaries served as waiters and
waitresses for the affair . . .
Cantor Nicholas Fenakel stirred
the audience with his Hebrew
renditions . .. and the speeches
were short enough to keep every-
one at ease . . . It is with sin-
cere tribute to a grand bunch
of people that the entire Jew-
ish community is in direct ac-
cord with Rabbi Adler's expres-
sion. "we are determined that
the flame which the Gold Star
Parents represents will not be
extinguished."

ROSE MOSS writes from Mi-
ami Beach that according to a
newsna.ner columnist there. the
head of a Florida maternity hos-
pital can't understand why so
many people stop to chuckle
over a sign on the front lawn
stating "No children allowed
here."

STANLEY S. KRAUSE, local
barrister for 28 years, an April
6 candidate for Recorder's Court
Judge, recalls the time he was
in court when the judge in an-
other case pointed a finger at
a defendant and thundered,
"You admit that you drove over
the victim with a truck?" . . .
"I do. Your Honor." auavered
the defendant . . . "What de-
fense have you to offer?" asked
the judge . .. Krause laughing-
ly remembers the truck driver's
answer,. . . "All I can say, Your
Honor," said the defendant, "is
that I had no idea it was load-
ed. -

RABBI JULIUS WEINBERG
had a combat of wit, last week,
with a friend who obviously lost
out . . . His defeated antagonist
intending to cast a slur on
Weinberg's vocation, fired back,
"If I had a son who was an
idiot, I would make him a rab-
bi" . . . to which Weinberg just
smiled and answered, "Your
father was of a different opin-
ion."

DR. FELIX ROSENWACH re-
lays the story of a young doc-
tor friend who hung up his
shingle in a small town and wait-
ed for his first patient . . . Some
days later, tells Dr. Rosenwach,
one arrived—covered from head
to foot with an angry, danger-

young medico hastily consulted
Atis text books but could find no
help there . . Finally he said
to the patient, "Did you ever
have this affliction before?" ...
"Oh, sure, doe," the patient re-
plied. "I've had it twice before."
damnation," diag-
. O r .
nosed the doctor, "you've got it
again."
Although this is a true story,
it's probably one of the very few
times Dr. Rosenwach has told a
serious one . . His best-known
tale is about the doctor who ex-
amined a very pretty new pa-
tient carefully, then beamed,
"Mrs. Atherton, I've got good
news for you." . . . The patient
said. "Pardon me, doctdr, it's
MISS Atherton." . . , "Oh," said
the doctor. "Well, Miss Atherton,
I've got bad news for you."

ERIC HAY, sale's manager at
radio station WJLB, tells about
a new Ptotestant pastor coming
to town whose'- clerical dress was
not unlike that of a priest . . .
He chanced to pass several lit-
tle Catholic boys on the street,
and a number of them tipped
their hats and chorused, "Good
evening, Father." .. . No sooner
had the minister passed than
one of the boys turned on his
companions in disgust, "Fath-
er! He's no father—he's got three
kids!"
CARD OF THANKS
The family of the late Mrs.
Fanny Remer wishes to thank
its relatives and friends for the
many kindnesses extended dur-
ing its recent bereavement.
