The United Synagogue of
America will observe its 40th
anniversary with a .nation-wide
celebration this week-end, it
was announced by Maxwell Ab-
bell, of Chicago, president of
the organization.
The United Synagogue, the
national organization of Con-
servative congregations in the
United States and Canada, was
established on Feb. 23, 1913,
when delegates from 22 syna-

gogues gathered in New York
City. Today 442 congregations
are associated with USA.
Also affiliated with USA are
its National Women's League,
the National Federation of
Jewish Men's Clubs, Young Peo-
ple's League, the United Syna-
gogue Youth, Cantors Assembly,
Educators Assembly and Na-
tional Association of Synagogue
Administrators.
The 40th anniversary celebra-

Temple Beth El School
Names Purim Programs

Purim will be marked by the
Temple Beth El Religious School
with special plays and mas-
querade parties, the first of
which will be held this Sunday
morning by the primary depart-
ment. Other parties will be held
by the confirmation department,
Feb. 28, and intermediate and
high school on March 1.
On Sunday and again on
March 1, the intermediate dra-
matic group will present Soifer's
"A Merry Good Purim," directed
by Lois Gordon.

In the cast are David Jackson, Joel
Greenberg, Bert Newman. Peggy Meyer,
Sara Jane Greenberg, Susan Winton,
Barbara Schon, Linda Smiler, Linda
Lovinger, Gail Cohen, Wendy Serwer,
Barbara Quint and Andra Winkelman.

Following the play, children
will march in a Shushan fashion
parade. Pictures will be -taken of
each class.
On Feb. 28, the confirmation
dramatic group will present
Milestone's "Shushan Boys," di-
rected by Harold Milner.

In the east are Jerome Weiss, Paula
Jackson, Peter Quint, Louis Stern, Karl
Ecker, Keith Shwayder, Lorry Wisok,
Janet Bing. Myra Lakoff, Barbara Roth-

Temple Israel Couples
Plan Membership Dance

All young married people in
the community are invited to
attend the first social event
planned by the Young Married
Group of Temple Israel.
A membership dance, the af-
fair will be held at 9 p.m., Sun-
day, in the Temple youth hall.
The music of Ben Katzman will
be featured for dancing. In-
stallation of officers will be
held during intermission, and
entertainment has been planned.
Eligible for membership in
the organization are all couples,
provided one of the spouses is
under the age of 35. Future
programs will include a speaker,
pot luck supper and community
relations program.

charge of the 30th anniversary
banquet of Young Israel, an-
