Lazare Saminsky to Be Honored Here Food Division Leaders
On 70th. Birthday Next Tues. Evening

of symphonic music by Jewish
composers, 8:30 p.m., Tuesday,
Feb.. 24, featuring the Center
Symphony Orchestra, conducted
by Julius Chajes, both events
at the Davison Branch.

honoring his '70th birthday, 8:30
p.m. next Tuesday at the Davi-
son Jewish Center, he will be
returning to the city of his
American debut. He first ap-
peared here in December, 1921,
when he conducted the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra in his
symphonic poems, "Vigiliae."
The concert, under auspices
of the Center, is planned as one
of a series of events in celebra-
tion of Jewish Music Month,
with Mrs. Sidney J. Allen as
general chairman.
Saminsky's compositions will
be performed by his pianist wife,
Jennifer Gandar; Wyn Garden,
soprano, Sadie Cooper Braver,
violinist, and Rebecca Frohman,
at the piano.
Co-sponsors for this concert
are Hashofar, Society for Ad-
vancement of Jewish Music, the
Suburban Temple, Temple Beth
El and Temple Israel. Members
of Temple Israel Sisterhood will
be hostesses at a reception after
the program.
The composer will speak on
the "Advancement of Jewish
Music." Others on the program
will be Rabbi Frank Rosenthal
of the Suburban Temple, chair-
man of the evening, Jason L.
Tickton, music director of Tem-
ple Beth El, and a representa-
tive of Hashofar, who will pre-
sent a special award to Samin-

sky.

is the director of the "Three
Choir Festival" and the author
of "Living Music of the Ameri-
cans," as well as several stage
