UJA to Launch 1953 Drive
At Miami Beach on Feb. 15
Did you miss your organiza-
tion's notice in The Jewish
News this week? Some people
did, and promptly called us
to tell us their views of us.
They thought we were fiends,
who had nothing better to do
than sit around all day,
gleefully throwing news
stories in the waste baskets.
Actually, this couldn't be
farther from the truth: Every
story that is submitted, pro-
viding that it is timely and
ON TIME, is printed in our
columns. If you didn't see
your notice, chances are that
it was sent in late, and our
deadline unfortunately is not
flexible.
Here is the deadline for all
editorial material: 9 a.m.,
Monday, for pictures, if space
permits; and 2 p.m. Monday,
for ALL news copy. News
reaching us after that time
will be withheld until the fol-
lowing week, if still timely,
otherwise it Fill be discarded._
The formal opening of the
United Jewish Apeal's 1953 na-
tionwide campaign, which will
usher in the UJA's 15th annual
drive in behalf of Israel and
homeless Jews in other parts of
the world, will take place Sun-
day, Feb. 15, at a national in-
augural conference at Saxony
Hotel, Miami Beach, Fla., it was
announced by Dr. Joseph J.
Schwartz, UJA. executive vice-
chairman.
Dr. Schwartz said that this
year's nationwide campaign must
bring the largest possible sums
to meet urgent immigration,
settlement, welfare and rehabili-
tation needs totalling $144,524,-
250, and that the more than 600
outstanding Jewish leaders at-
tending the conference will be
faced with the responsibility for
setting a standard of giving in
keeping with this year's critical
needs.
The inaugural conference,
which will be addressed by out-

"I never met Dr. Fadil Jamali
or any member of the Iraqi dele-

I have no knowledge at all of
material which was allegedly
submitted in the name of the
Neturei Karta to the Iraqi dele-
