TWV Commander Asks for Repeal

ATLANTIC, (J.TA)—The Jew-
ish War Veterans of the United
States at its national conven-
tion here was urged by its
national commander, Paul Gins-
berg, to work for the repeal of
the McCarran Immigration Act
and the adoption of an immigra-
tion statute "that genuinely
represents American principles
of- justice and equality of oppor-
tunity."
More than 4,000 delegates
attended the four-day con-
vention. A message from Presi-
dent Truman praised the vet-
erans for their "constructive ef-
forts in behalf of your fellow
Americans, iegardless of race,
creed or color" and said that
"today's events present, not only
the strongest challenge from
the forces of evil, but alSo the
greatest opportunity for good in
the history of mankind. We, in
America, have it within our
'power to work without stint
for an enduring structure of
international peace built on
the solid foundation of justice
and security fore.a.11."
Irving Kane, chairman of the
National Community Relations
Advisory Council, was honored
with a .certificate of merit for
"welding national and local Jew-
ish agencies with diVerse ap-
proaches to community relations
problems into an effective in-
strumentality for maintaining
Jewry's positive contributions to
the ever-growing development o'
Arrierica's democracy."
In accepting the award, Kane
said, "The communities of Amer-
ica have never ceased to ask for
an organization of Jewish com-
munity relations work that will
reveal the existence of some sort
of integrated planning, and that
will dissipate the appearance of
confusion, opportu n.i s ro and
cross purpose • that has givn the
field a bad name.
We have finally demonstrated
that we have reached that stage
of maturity where, by vote of
an overwhelming majority, we

could adopt a plan for such or-
ganization of the field." Kane
was referring to the NCRAC
adoption of the Maclver report
for joint planning among
Jewish community relations
agencies,.with division of respon-
sibilities. among them.
Jesse Moss, former assistant
Federal attoiiley in New York,
was elected Commander of JWV

Of McCarran .Act

at the closing session of the
57th annual convention.
The convention adopted a
resolution calling for increased
American aid to Israel and for
the awarding by the United
States of offshore contracts to
Israel's industry "whose manu-
facturing' plants are now cap-
able of absorbing industrial
orders."

FRANK G. MILLARD

ATTORNEY GENERAL

JOHN B. MARTIN, JR

AUDITOR GENERAL

RECENT PRISON RIOTS cost you and

fellow Michigan citizens about
000,000! The supervisor of Michigan
to Prisons—appointed by the Governor
and the 'Governor himself, failed to act in
time to prevent these costly riots. Later, a
"truce" was made with the surly prisoners
and YOU bought them steak, ice cream and
other favors for their promise to be "good
boys" in the future!

WHO CONTROLS OUR GOVERNOR?

Find out who ordered him to open the prison
gates for a goon-squad leader convicted of
.t.roying property. Find out who ordered
him to veto the "Good Roads Program" to
take Michigan out of the mud. Find out who
ordered him to veto the loyalty board char-
ter amendment to Detroit's city charter and
told him not to let the legislature consider
anti-communist laws in a special session.

UPUSLICAN STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE:

THESE SPECIAL GROUPS can get favors

and privileges from the Governor's office
because they "control" the Goveinor. He
owes allegiance to them because they are the
back-bone of his support. They are not inter-
ested in what is good for the State of Michi-
gan but only in what will further their own
ambitions and lust for power. These groups
are controlled by a few men who dictate
policy and act as political advisors to the
Governor. They are responsible to nobody
but themselves. This secret political bossism
in Michigan must end!

,

SURE* YOU'RE BURNED UP! Well, do

something about it, this time! Get Michigan
State Government back in working, do-
something order! Show them you mean it,
by voting straight Republica.n . . . on
