Congregation Bnai . David announces the introduction of its
new choir, consisting of eight young men from 15 to 18 years of
age, under the direction of Irving Ritter. This is the first time
that a local boys' choir has been organized by a congregation here
for use on Sabbath morning and all holiday services.
The choir boys are all students or graduates of Central High
School, and were selected by Cantor Hyman J. Adler and Mr. Ritter.
One of the prime purposes of organizing a boys' choir was to
provide an opportunity for young -men to learn and sing traditional
liturgical musk. For a number of years, there has been a dearth
of synagogue choir singers becaUse of the lack of facilities pro-
vided for the training and presenting of new choirs.
Cong. Bnai David intends to maintain this type of schooling
for choir singers in the future, and additional young men will be
permitted to train and sing with the present group. The choir
includes the following voices: 1st tenors, Eddie Ryke, Al Schreier
and James Edelson; 2nd tenors, Dennis Freeman and Gil Kohn;
baritones, Robert Berg and Allan Ross; bases, Eugene Cohen and
Tom Krieger.
The choir will make its first appearance at services at Bnai
David on Feb. 1, in honor of Jewish Music Month.
