Each train this week-end brings a bevy of college students
home for the two-week vacation period. Many servicemen, how-
ever, have postponed their leaves in order to pinch hit for their
Christian buddies who otherwise couldn't have a family Christmas.
Richard Baum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Baum of Fairfield
Ave., and Jon Desenberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold B. Desenberg,
will arrive home from Amherst, Mass., today.
William Frank, son of Mr, and Mrs. William H. Frank of
Wildemere Ave., will enjoy a vacation from Philip's Academy,
Andover, Mass.
William Marwil, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Marwil of Pen-
nington Ave., is due in from Brandeis University this week-end.
Susan Klein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurie Klein of Chicago
Blvd., arrived yesterday from Connecticut College, New London;
and Laine Ginn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Ginn of Birch-
crest Drive, is homeward bound from Cornell.
Barbara Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip G. Smith of
Boston Blvd., is making the trip home from University of Miami,
Coral Gables.
Mimi Glasier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Glasier of Birch-
crest Drive, will arrive from Northwestern University and spend
several days here before going on to Chattanooga, Tenn., to be
the house guest of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney
Rudolph.
Bill Wetsman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wetsman of Boston
Blvd., will entrain from U.C.L.A. He is scheduled to stop in Chi-
cago and attend the Zeta Beta Tau convention there, represent-
ing his house as president this year. Bill will arrive home finally
on New Year's Day.
Young Dr. and Mrs. William Rattner of Ann Arbor will join
his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Moe Rattner of Baylis Ave., in Miami
Beach for the vacation period.
Miss Joyce Janeway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jane-
way of Canterbury Drive, will arrive from Washington, D. C., for
a holiday with her parents.
Miss Marcia Ermann of Merton Road will visit Miami Beach
for a fortnight.
Miss Eiga Hershman arrived yesterday from New York to spend
Hanukah with her parents, Rabbi and Mrs. A. M. Hershman of
Calvert Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Graham Landau have returned from a wedding
trip to Haiti, Jamaica, Virgin Isles, and Puerto Rico, and will
establish residence soon on Briarcliff Road.
Dr. and Mrs. Louis A. Schwartz and son, Stephen, of Argyle
Crescent, are vacationing in Mexico for a few weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Frank and family of Woodingham Drive
are leaving this week for a stay in Miami Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. I. Rosenthal of Blaine Ave. are hosts to their
daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Shatzen, Robert and
Marilyn, from San Leandro, Calif., for the coming month,
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Danto of New York will divide the vaca-
tion period with their parents, Dr. and Mrs. S. B. Danto of Chicago
Blvd., and Mr, and Mrs. Ben Rovetch of Oakman Court.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard R. Howard and son, Laurence Keith, of
Bayside, Long Island, have arrived in Detroit to spend the holi-
day season with their family, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Konop, of

• Aviva Freedman and Gerry Glass, of Detroit, and Shirley
Runsenstein, of Windsor, are spending their vacation period from
the University of Michigan with their classmate, Sema Rogal, of
Pittsburgh, Pa.
Cindy Katzman, Agnes Silverman, Eunice Rossen, Karcil Bloom,
Joan Konop are spending the holiday vacation from University
of Michigan with their families in Detroit,
Debie Mohr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Mohr, is home
from the University of Miami for the holiday season, and will re-
main here until Jan. 7.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Einzig, of LaSalle Blvd., have left for a
vacation in Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Kallman H. Rosen, of Los Angeles, former De-
troiters, recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at a
surprise dinner dance given by their children, the I. Abramovitz's,
and their sisters, Mrs. J. Einhorn and Mrs. A. Smolar. Mr. and
Mrs. Smolar and family flew from Detroit for the event, which was
held at the Beverly Chateau in Los Angeles.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Tolmich of the Wilshire Apts. will leave this
week for a stay at Palm Springs, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Holinstat and daughters, Judy and
Linda, of Roselawn Ave. will leave for a fortnight's holiday in
Miami Beach.
Mrs. William J. Hubert of Nor thlawn Ave. is visiting at the
Whitcomb Sulphur Springs Hotel, St. Joseph, Mich.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan Littman, Jr., of Cleveland spent the week
here as guests of their immediate family, Dr. and Mrs. David
Kallman of Canterbury Road, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Loewen-

lems of Jewish needs in North
Africa, once considered insolu-
ble, are now assuming manage-
able proportions, Moses A. Lea-
vitt, executive vice-chairman of
the Joint Distribution Commit-
tee, said upon -his return from
a tour of Europe, Israel and
North Africa.
Mr. Leavitt, said that the JDC
had also made marked advance
in meeting another "insoluble"
problem—that of the "hard
core" immigrants in Israel.
