Fashion Show with
Actress lika Chase
The culmination of the De-
t r o i t Chapter of Hadassah's
Honor Roll, the annual fund-
raising campaign, will take
place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at
the Scottish Rites Cathedral,
Masonic Temple.
Taking the form of an in-
creased pledge party, a fashion
show sponsored by Sak's Fifth
Ave nu e, will be presented.
Models will also wear jewelry
created by Wright Kay, Inc.
Commentary will be by Mary
Morgan, radio and television
fashion writer. Phil Brestoff
and his orchestra will provide
musical background.
Featured guest at the increase
party will be Ilka Chase, noted
actress of radio, stage and
screen and author of such best
selling novels as "Past Imper-
fect." "In Bed We Cry," "I Love
Miss Tillie Bean" and "New
York 22," the 'after her latest
novel.
Miss Chase was the star of
Luncheon at the Waldorf, a
popular New York radio pro-
gram, and has appeared many
times on Fashion Magic, a TV
program. She is considered one
of America's best dressed
women.
Miss Chase is the wife of Dr.
Norton Brown, a physician, and
her mother is Edna Woolman
Chase. editor-in-chief of Vogue,
fashion magazine.
Mrs. Joseph Jackie'', honor
roil chairman, and Mrs. Merwin
Orosberg. co-chairman, advise
that the only requirement for
admission is an increased pledge
for the Honor Roll campaign.
Mrs. Charles Gershenson is pro-
gram chairman.
Hadassah.'s whirlwind 'mem-
bership enrollment will be con-
ducted as a one-day campaign,
stated Mrs. Morse S a u 1 s o n.

Detroit Council of Pioneer
Women are invited to attend its
first open house of the season
at 8:30 p.m., Oct. 17, at the
Davison Jewish Center. Serving
as hostesses will be the social,
organization, education and
funds committee.
The Detroit Council's quota of
the national fund-raising goal
of . $2,500,000 is announced as
$70,000. Plans will be carried

Blind Jewish youngsters from
the hara (ghetto) of Tripoli re :
ceived new hope for decent lives
this week, when a special class
was established for blind chil-
dren at the Joint Distribution
Committee - supported P i e t r o
Verri School in that city, it was
reported by Abe Loskove, JDC
director for Tripolitania. The
blind students bring to more
than 1,000 the total of ill and
handicapped Jewish youngsters
now being taught and cared for
at the combined hospital-school
and feeding center.
Israel 'Pillar of Democracy,'
Lehman Tells Bond Meeting

pillars of the democratic world,"
Senator Herbert H. Lehman
wired Mayor Impellitteri on the
occasion of the latter's dinner
for the $500,000,000 State of
Israel Bond drive. To express
his "confidence in our little sis-
ter republic," Senator Lehman
announced his subscription to
$50,000 in State of Israel Bonds.
British Legion Post Honors
Brig. Gen. Julius Klein
The Monash Post of the Brit-
ish. Legion (counterpart of the
American Legion) has named
Brig. Gen, Julius Klein, nation-
ally known public relations con-
sultant, and past national com-
mander of the Jewish War Vet-
erans, as an honorary member.
The post is named after General
Sir John Monash, commander of
t h e Australian Expeditionary
Forces in World War I who was
Jewish.
