Hapoel Loses First Game
Of British Soccer Tour

LONDON, (JTA)—Israel's star
soccer eleven, the Hapoel, was
turned back by a powerful Ar-
senal team this week by a score
of 6-1 in the first match of its
current invasion of Britain.
Forty-five thousand spectators,
witnessing the first match
played under floodlights, saw
Arsenal outplay the visitors
from start to finish.
The Israeli eleven was unable
to put up a consistent defense
against the sharpshooting Ar-
senal team although the Hapoel
goalie, Hodorov, came in for
warm praise from British sports
writers.
Mounted police were needed
to hold the crowds. The British
and Israeli national anthems
were played by the Metropolitan
police band and Eliahu Elath,
Israeli Minister to London. re-
viewed the two teams before the
kickoff.
Hapoel's next game is against
the league-leading Manchester
United team.

The English Lawn Tennis As-
sociation has invited three
young Israel tennis players to
take :part in the International
'Youti;:i Tennis Championships at
Wimbledon.
