Mizrachi Women Plan
Pre-Donor Tune-Up

At a pep rally an Wednesday,
at Rosenberg's Catering, the
Sisters of Zion Mizrachi will
hear reports from Mrs. Joseph
H. Kunin and Mrs. Rose Singer,
who have just returned from the
Bond Conference in Washing-
ton.
Mrs. Isaac Rosenthal, chair-
man of the child rescue fund,
will give a report on the des-
perate need of thousands of or-
phans in Israel, who depend on
funds from the Mizrachi women
for existence.
The pep rally, beginning with
a luncheon, is a preliminary af-
fair to the donor luncheon,
which climaxes the group's fund
raising achievements. The donor
will be held Oct. 31, at Adas
Shalom Synagogue, announced
Mrs. Milton Winston, chairman.

Students at the ORT Vocational Training School in Iran join
their fellow students at ORT institutions in Western Europe, North
Africa and.Israel in sending their greetings and best wishes for a
Happy New Year to the Jews of America, as thanks for the help
they have so generously provided. With the cabinet making skills
learned at the ORT school these young Iranian Jews built the
Ohren Bodesch shown in the above picture. They hope to go on
to Israel soon, where they will use their trades to participate in
the upbuilding of their new homeland.

1st Jewish GI from

Rhode Island Dies
In Battle for Korea

PROVIDENCE (AJP) — The
first Jewish soldier in Rhode Is-
land to lose his life in the Kor-
ean war died in action last Au-
gust.
The Jewish GI, Pfc. Alfred Sil-
ver, was killed on Aug. 27, the
Jewish Herald disclosed follow-
ing receipt of a telegram to the
boy's mother from the Defense
Department.
Silver, who was a drummer
with various bands before en-
tering the service in October,
1950, recently won the Combat
Infantryman's Badge when he
and other volunteers attempted
to rescue United Nations' per-
sonnel trapped by Communist
forces.
In the rescue attempt, Silver
and his buddies were sur-
rounded, but managed to eyade
the trap and rejoin their lines.

Barnard Co Founder Dies
Mrs. Annie Nathan Meyer,
author, co-founder of Barnard
College, died Sunday at the age
of 84. She was a pioneer in urg-
