Newest Detroit Rabbi
Discusses Immigration
With Mexican President
Rabbi Ephraim H. Einhorn,
who will settle in Detroit after
mid-August when he assumes
leadership of Ahavas Achim
Synagogue, on Schaefer and
Seven Mile Rds., recently visited
in Mexico with President Miguel
Aleman.
-In discussing Mexican Jewish
problems with Rabbi Einhorn,
the Mexican president said that
immigration was free of all dis-
crimination. He assured Rabbi
Einhorn that the quota system
established when he was Min-
ister of Interior was still in ef-
fect.
Rabbi Einhorn congratulated
Aleman on the splendid efforts
made by the Mexican goVern-
ment in granting hundreds of
visas to Jews during the Hitler
reign of terror.
President Aleman further
stated that he felt Jews in Mex-
ico have made and continue to
make great contributions to in-
dustrial expansion and general
progress.
Previously, Rabbi Einhorn vis-
ited with William O'Dwyer, for-
mer New York mayor and now
U. S. Ambassador to Mexico.
The two discussed Mexican Jew-
ish immigration.
Before coming to Detroit to
assume his new pulpit, Rabbi
Einhorn will travel to Spain,
Iran and Israel. It was recently
announced at Ahavas Achim
that a Sunday School would be
opened in the fall at the Ver-
nor Public School following ap-
proval by the Board of Educa
tion.
