Layettes to Pioneer Women for Israel

Silver Heads for Africa,
Pleased with ZOA Vote
At 54th Conference

NEW YORK, (AJP)—Dr. Abba
Hillel Silver, on the eve of his
departure by air for a three-
week tour of South Africa in
behalf of the Jewish National
Fund, declared that "solidarity"
and "basic unit y" continues
within the Zionist Organization
of America.
The reference came several
days following the hectic 54th
annual national ..ZOA conven-
tion in Atlantic City during
which the issue of ZOA support
for the General Zionist Party
in Israel developed into a major
issue. The ZOA by a 329 to 127
vote went on record to
"strengthen General Zionism
throughout the world."
Dr. Silver said tttat "the good
spirit with which i the minority
accepted the decisions of the
majority, confirms t h e basic
unit y and solidarity of the
Zionist Organization."
-Voicing pleasure at the out-
come of the convention, Dr.
Silver said actions taken at the
f our -day gathering "demon-
strated anew the devotion and
maturity of American Zionists
who are determined to protect
with equal vigor the vital in-
terests of Israel and the Zion-
ist movement.
Scheduled to arrive in South
Africa to attend the golden ju-
bilee celebrations of JNF, Dr.
Silver will address Zionist gath-
erings in the major Jewish coin-
munities of that country.

Jewish Industrialists
Forced from Buidapest

LONDON (JTA)—Nearly all
Jewish industrialists in Buda-
pest -have been forced to give up
_their homes in a move by. the
Hungarian government to rid the
capital of so-called "inefficient"
persons.
Among the prominent Jewish
personalities deported from the
Hungarian capital in this new
purge of non-Communist ele-
ments are' reported' to be Baron
Paul. Kornfeld, a former banker;
Prof. Josef Frigyese, a leading
gynecologist, and Julius Kramer,
a well-known writer.
In the town of Dobreczin, over
a hundred Jewish businessmen
were summarily evicted from
their homes which were handed
over to "Stakhanowite" workers.
