Simon
poration was annotinced by
Robert Szold, chairman of the
Board of directors. Mr. Sugar-
man, who will assume office on
Sept.1, succeeds Julius Simon,
one of the founders of PEC and
president since 1930. Mr. Simon
has been elected chairman of the
administrative committee, in
which capacity he will devote
himself to the further expansion
of the corporation's activities.
Mr. Sugarman, who is 39,
formerly was a lawyer and busi-
ness man in Boston. He now re-
sides in Israel, where he has
been serving as managing direct-
or of the Jerusalem. Shoe Com-
pany which he established in
conjunction with the General
Shoe Company of Nashville,
Tenn. He is also a member of
the advisory council of the Is-
rael Government Investment
Center.
How the Palestine Economic
Corporation pioneered in financ-
ing and developing basic indust-
rial and agricultural activities in
Israel is told in the Corpora-
tion's 25th anniversary report.
The corporation has joined
with several leading American
firms in forming new business
enterprises in Israel. These in-
clude a tire and rubber factory,
set up with the collaboration of
the General Tire and Rubber Co.
of Akron, Ohio; a paper mill to
be erected with the active par-
ticipation of the Hudson Pulp
and Paper Co. of New York and
the Israel distributorships for
the International General Elec-
tric Co. and the Aluminum Com-
pany of America.
Bayside Land Corporation,
Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary
of PEC, completed last year the
largest single factory develop-
ment in Israel, according to the
report. This project, in the Haifa
Bay area, includes 12 buildings
containing more than 86,000
square feet.
The report, which is being
mailed to 6,000 American stock-
holders, is accompanied by- con-
gratulatory messages from Presi-
dent Truman, Dr. Chaim Weiz-
mann, Senator Herbert H. Leh-
man, Supreme Court Justice
Felix Frankfurter, and other
distinguished personalities of Is-
rael and the United States.
President Truman, in his mes-
sage, recalled that the late Louis
D. Brandeis "shared in the for-
mulation of the basic construc-
tive policies of the Palestine
Economic Corporation. This is of
course only one of the many
contributions made by him to
humanity, but it is a great con-
tribution of enduring life and
hope for the future. To the men
and women who were associated
with him in your enterprise and
are carrying on his devotion and
public service, I express my ap-
preciation and offer warm felici-
tations."

German Police Discover
Files of Two Nazi Camps
FRANKFORT, (JTA ) -German
police at Aachen have discovered
the entire registration files of
the Nazi concentration camps
at Buchenwald and Sachsen-
hausen.
The files include the names of
150,000 non-German prisoners-
mostly Jews-the records of the
camp hospital and the death
files. Many entries in the death
files, in the handwriting of su-
pervising Gestapo personnel, end
with "shot while attempting to
escape." According to the Aachen
police, these handwriting re-
marks would be of value in pros-
ecuting the Gestapo men on war
crime charges.
