NEW YORK—Arthur L. Witty, f "Salute • to Israel," written by
a member of the well-known ; Ben Aronin and directed by
firm of clothiers, Witty Brothers,1Isaac Van Grove, will have a
cast headed by Molly Picon, and
starring Richard Tucker of the
Metropolitan Opera Co.
"Toast of the Town," Ed Sul-

will be televised directly from
the Garden as part of the pro-
gram - in a special performance
featuring outstanding personal-
ities of stage, screen and radio.
Gov. Dewey and Mayor Im-
pelitteri are honorary chairmen
of the "Salute to Israel" pageant
which will portray in highly
dramatic sequences Israel's bat-
tle for independence.

. TEL AVIV—Dr. Chaim Weiz-
man, President of Israel, issued
an Independence Day message
recalling the miracle of the
state's creation three years ago.
He stressed the- unceasing pro-
cess of creative endeavor for
consolidating the state and cre-
ating conditions ;for the admis-

President Weizmann pointed out
that the country's population
doubled while 'all spheres of de-
velopment are constantly ad-

to Israel" pageant which this
year commemorates the third
anniversary of the establish-
ment of the State of Israel. The
announcement of the citation
to Witty was made by Daniel
Trotzky, general co-chairman
for the pageant.
Alix Taroff and her dance
company, in a program of Is-
raeli dances, will also appear in
the pageant. Miss Taroff, who
will be dance soloist in one of
the high spots of the drama, is
also associate choreographer to-
gether with Joan Woodruff.

Seek Extension of
Iraq's Exit Date

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Dip-
lomatic steps to persuade . the
Iraq Government to extend for
a month the final date of the
completion of . emigration of
Jews from Baghdad to the Jew-
ish state were undertaken by
the I s r a. e 1 government: The
deadline set by the Iraqi author-
ities is May 31. There are in-
dications that the steps by Is-
rael will yield positive results.

Dr. Silver Pays Visit
To Israel's President

TEL AVIV, (JTA)—Dr. Abba
Hillel Silver, American Zionist
leader, was the guest of Presi-
dent Chaim Weizmann at a
luncheon at his home in Reho-
voth.
Speaking at a luncheon ten-
dered to him by the Commercial
and Industrial Club, Dr. Silver
expressed his conviction that
American Jews would come to
Israel. He said that the Jew-
ish state is entitled to claim
continued economic and politi-
cal support f r o in American
Jewry and emphasized that the
Zionist_ Organization of America
is the best organized Zionist
group in the United States.

Friday, May 11, marks the completion

of three years of independent rule of Israel. It is a

historic event to be observed by Detroit Jewry at

religious services and a public demonstration

representing the entire community. Hudson's joins

the many friends of the fledgling state in wishing

it a glorious future.
