9-85,000 Jews Aided
En Appeal Rehabilitation
Projects So Far in. '51

Agencies of the United Jewish
Appeal, which receive their
funds through the Appeal's na-
tionwide c a m p a i g n, extended
full or partial immigration, set
tlement and rehabilitation as-
sistance during the first three
months of 1951 to more than
485.000 Jews in Israel, Europe,
North Africa _and the Near East,
it was reported by Edward M. M.
Warburg, UJA general chair-
man.
Warburg reported that the
constituent agencies of the
United Jewish Appeal - the
United Palestine Appeal, Joint
Distribution Committee and
United Service for New Ameri-
cans - earmarked a total of
.$42,492,000 from Jan. 1 through
March 31 for settlement and
absorption of homeless Jews
arriving in Israel, for relief and
welfare services in E u r op e,
North Africa and the Middle
East and for refugee aid in the
United States.
The UJA chairman urged in
his quarterly report that cam-
paign chairmen and executives
throughout the country accel-
erate their local drives this
Spring "so that the United Jew-
ish Appeal can keep pace with
Mounting demands for emer-
-gency- large-scale funds." He
stressed, "Spring has ushered in
one of the most critical periods
ever to face the United Jewish
Appeal."
