To Aid Israel Cause

LONDON—(AJP)--A num-
ber of women in an audience
at a recent Keren Hayesod
(Palestine Foundation Fund)
rally here were so touched by
an emergency campaign for
Israel that they removed
wedding rings from their fin-
gers and offered them to as-
sist Jewish newcomers to the
Jewish state.
Featured speakers at the
rally were Bartley Crum, Zvi
Herman and Jan Mikardo, a
member of the British Par-
liament.

Center Prepares for
Jewish History Week

Jewish History Week, M a y
6-12, will be observed with pro-
grams and exhibits by the Jew
ish Community Center, empha-
sizing achievements and contri-
butions of Jews in America.
The celebration will open May
8, with a talk by Rabbi Harry
Essrig of Temple Emanuel,
Grand Rapids, on "J e w s in
American History." He w ill
speak at the Davison Branch.
A contributor to practically
every national Jewish publica-
tion of standing, and a former
editor of the "Reconstruction-
ist" and "Liberal Judaism", the
youthful Rabbi has won na-
tional honors for his insight
into American Jewish life.
Jewish ceremonials from the
collection of Charles Feinberg
and Harvey Goldman will be on
display at Center buildings
throughout the week.

Hebrew Schools took part in
model seders this week as the
schools prepared their students
for the celebration of Passover.
Participating were:
Central Branch, Mesdames B.
Sharkey, P. Kahn and H. Thav
and Norman Ruttenberg, prin-
cipal; Rose Sittig Cohen, Mrs.
Sidney Katchem and Morris

Enrollment Opens for Center
Nursery Afternoon Session

Enrollments for the nursery
school at the Davison Jewish
Center are being accepted for
the afternoon session only. Chil-
dren enrolled will be given pref-
erence for fall registration, Mrs.
M i l d r e d Rolnitzky Freedman,
nursery director, announces.
Nursery classes are limited to
a, maximum of 17 children.
Three and four year olds are
accepted.

Ford Cars Win in AM
Phases of Economy Run

NEW YORK—Trophies won in
the 840-mile Mobilgas Grand
Canyon economy run were dis-
played to the press and com-
pany officials when drivers of
three of the winning cars visit-
ed New York City.
The economy run, supervised
by the American Automobile As-
sociation, is considered the na-
tion's foremost performance test
for passenger cars. It was won
this year by a 1951 Lincoln
which turned in a record of 25.-
448 miles per gallon and 66,484
ton miles per gallon. Mercury
and Ford cars also won in each
of their price classes in the 32-
car field.
Drivers were Les Viland of
Long Beach, California, who
drove the winning Lincoln to
capture the sweepstakes award;
Bill Stroppe, also of Long Beach,
who drove the winning 1951
Mercury, and Al Cottle, the win-
ning Ford driver. Trophies were
awarded at the South rim of
the Grand Canyon at conclusion
of the race.
